That said, I caught the Star Trek: TNG episode on SyFy tonight where the cerebral Captain Picard plays the whistle at his “son’s” naming ceremony. While we all know the story behind it (he didn’t play it, the whistle was fake, et al…), it is still nice to see the whistle getting some street creds on TV. And it was some tasty playing…
The Inner Light is my all-time favorite ST episode. The series, and Nemesis, has actually featured the Ressikan Flute a few times. If you watch carefully, the Inner Light briefly shows the grown-up Batai holding another whistle.
We watched that DS 9 episode today, before I came back to this thread. And I said, as O’Brien opened the box, in an excited fashion “Ooh look! An Overton!”
