I’d like to purchase a book/CD that includes both the melody and notation for accompaniment. I have a couple books with music but(gasp) no guitar chords. There are several books by Mel Bay that seem to fit my needs, and “The Complete Irish Tinwhistle Tunebook” - L.E. McCullough, which The Whistle Shop sells. I know some on the board have either looked through a lot of these books or used them . . . are there any in particular that you have used and liked? I’d also rather get a tune book with a CD/tape, as I really can’t play strictly from sheet music.
Before you commit to books..check out some stuff on the internet…
www.blackflute.com/music/tunes.html is one of my favorites. It has several common tunes along with guitar chords..
I have the book you mention and while it is very good,it spends a good deal of time on ornamentation which cam be frustrating for us learner types.
There is also the www.madfortrad.com site which offers computer based learning. Music notation along with video..good luck
The Mel Bay books are really nice. I have “Session Tunes” and “Tin Whistle Tunes” and use them a lot.
I’ve mentioned somewhere in the past, but a couple of my favorites are the 110 Ireland’s Best Tinwhistle Tunes, …Slow Aires, and my new current favorite, A Dossan of Heather.
All have notation, Guitar chords, and CDs.
I still use them. But I do get lots of music on the net as well.
Don’t forget to learn to play by ear, though!
