Can anyone suggest a book of Irish Music, for the tin whistl

I am interested in getting a book of Irish Music, so I can learn tunes on my tin whistle, to be played at sessions with others. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

There was a brief discussion of recommended books recently on the ITM forum:

Hope this helps

I recently bought “Ireland’s 101 Best Slow Airs,” which is lovely (worth getting the companion CD as well).

Mel Bay’s “Complete Tin Whistle Guide” has a lot of great tunes in it too.

I like “Irish Tin Whistle Legends” by Tommy Walsh as a nice, balanced starter book. It’s full of lots of familiar tunes.

Another option is to listen to recordings then hunt the tune down on the internet at sites like http://www.sessioneer.com or http://www.thesession.org.

I love the internet…thousands of free pages of Irish sheet music just waiting to be found!

i really like (and bear me out before you stop reading when you see the title)
PIPE FRIENDLY TUNES by John Walsh. It is available on the NPU website. Nice settings for over 450 traditional tunes. ignore the reference to pipes, they are extremely whistle friendly. hear any tune on a traditional CD and chances are it is in this book. the index at the end references tunes by multiple names which is essential. will get back to you on the URL for NPU.
