Hoping to do some serious busking in France this summer with my pipes.
Anyone been over and tried it? Any hints or tips?

A bunch of freinds went over to Brittany some years ago busking (playing ITM). They had a fantastic time and wouldnt shut up about it for months.

I’m member of Breton pipes association; I don’t know what your plans are, but if you need information, just let me know, I’ll try to help you.
Best
Thanks Breizh, my private message system seems not to work at present. My e-mail is buskersean@yahoo.co.uk
If you have any hints about when to busk (day or evening), how to collect (hat or drops) and such please get in touch. I shall be coming over to France in Easter to give it a trial run. Unfortunately we can’t take the boat to Brittany, as it is not connected to the main line system in france
A clear plastic jar is a good idea; put some money in it
to give people an idea of what it’s for. Freeze
dried coffee jars are good.
(Forgive me if I’m telling you what you already know.)
Best not to let it fill up with money, keep taking
money out, leaving the mininum to make it clear
what it’s about and to stop the jar
from blowing away ; people have sometimes run
off with my jar when it’s full, and I suppose
chasing while carrying pipes will
not be in the plan.
In my experience the day is better
than the night. What matters is that
people can hear and see you, and
that there are lots of em. See if you can learn to play
‘La Vie en Rose’ on the pipes. Best
P. S. I’ve found it helpful to bring along
a small folding chair, one finds these
in surplus stores and other places,
very minimal, costs 20 dollars.
has a handle. I put the jar on this so
that people don’t have to bend down so
far to put money in it. Mostly I play
standing up, but sometimes I use
it to sit on.
