Hoping to do some serious busking in France this Summer with my pipes.
Anyone tried it over there? Any hints or tips?

I believe the pipers of the 42nd Highlanders had some success there under Wellington?
Busking?
Any city or village in our West–i.e. Brittany–will do. Busk and hike. Just make sure you wear your pipes when lifting the thumb ![]()
Get a list of Old Rigs (wooden boats) rallyes along the ports: this may be your best bet. Some crews will be happy to get you on board just to get some sound on their ship. Put a family box of Alka-Seltzers in your backpack if you do this.
Don’t miss our local ITM Festival, aka “La Session” in Mesquer (44) first week-end of July. Don’t forget to visit the Int’l Droned Instruments Festival in St-Chartier the next week, even if it’s smack in the Center of France. Big thing. Then there’s Lorient Celtic Music Festival… July seems the best time indeed.
That was in Belgium Wellington laid them, limey.

I whistle busked in Paris.
It went OK, police left me alone,
folks gave me money, there
were lots of tourists, which helps.
Only difficulty was that I
would bail out as soon as
I had made enough for lunch
for my wife and me.
St. Michele was a good place,
also played on the bridges.
Don’t know about your experiences,
but I do best when there are
lots of people passing by.
Don’t know how it would
go elsewhere. Anyway,
I think the pipes would
be great. Best
Thanks guys, I’m off in a week or two to do a trial run for Easter
If Easter, then forget by all means whatever I advised with our Wild Far Ouest.
Follow Jim Stone’s path. Paris is the place.
