Hi there,
We’re maybe going to Britanny this summer. I’d like to know if booking ahead is mandatory for this time of the year? We’ve travelled to Ireland and Scotland several times, no bookings, no problem ever, more freedom to stay wherever you fancy. Does anyone know if it works more or less the same in Britanny and Normandie or we run the risk to sleep in a freezin’ trench?
Thanks
Rafa
Brittany is popular. It’s a while since I’ve been, but it’s mostly best to book.
Thanks to Innocent Bystander for his only reply.
This is a little bump for all Brittany natives or ‘connaiseurs’ to have the uncroyable chance to mirror in these pages their views and experience about lodging, what to see, food, drink, not to miss, sessions, and so on and so forth.
Thanks
Rafa
if you go end of august or later, it should at least be easier to find accommodation.
Thanks Claudine. I’ll be there from 3rd-12th august. A bit worried because Lorient Festival dates are coincidental.
Do you think it’s worth driving from Paris or you’d rather take a train and then rent a car once there?

August is still “Holiday Month” for Paris, so take that as your starting point. Everybody (nearly) in Paris goes on holiday in August. The first weekend in August is like twelve English Bank Holidays rolled up together. Traffic is an unimaginable nightmare, and annually there is a bunch of nasty accidents all over France. Don’t travel then if you can avoid it.
So the 3rd being the next weekend, traffic should be less heavy, but, since it is August, hotels and the like will be booked. If you haven’t booked by now, you may be too late!
I’d be inclined to travel by train and rent a car when you are there, if only to avoid the Route Peripherique around Paris. Every bit as bad as the M25 around London.

Bison futé will give you information about traffic problems and this can help you choose the best moment for your journey.
