I will be going to Vannes in Brittany for two weeks starting Mar 7. Nayone have suggestions as to things to do, places to go, or people to see.
I have already contacted Gilles Lehart and am really looking forward to going to some Fest Noz in the Vannes region.
You should get in touch with Zub, he’s our Britanny representative ![]()
And would you mind asking Mr. Lehart how my flute is coming along. ![]()
Man I would love to be going their. Have a great time, and go sailing. That must be a must.
Tom
I think you should take along a large steamer trunk. One large enough to hold me!
Let’s see… you’re going to the Vannes region, visiting Gilles LeHart, going to some festou noz… I’d say you’ve already got the makings of a good trip. The weather will be dodgy but get some tramping about done and get a feel for the countryside.
Kenavo!

Hey, welcome to south Brittany.
I won’t make any predictions about weather. To-day it snowed, which never happens…
Vannes is my best-loved town in Brittany. It’s theheart of Mor Bihan (small sea) aka Gulf of Morbihan (which is a pleonastic centaur word). A must for any sailor: If you can master its hidden reefs, many intricate islands, sudden changes of wind and reversed tidal streams with whirlpools… you can sail anywhere!
For Saint Patrick’s day, you may try Lorient 3/4 an hour up North instead of Vannes.
BTW, I assume you’ll have a car : Lehart is at the other end of Brittany, two hours up North… if you know your road.
Also, if you’re in touch with Lehart, do ask him where/when you could see a performance of Jean-Michel Veillon , who plays a half-dozen Lehart flutes since he abandoned his last Olwells… He is the best flautist in France for trad music (mostly Breton with some Irish) and I believe he lives some where not too far from Lehart.
