Does anyone know where I could get a short section (56mm) of thin walled (1-2mm) brass tubing with an inner diameter of 63.5mm (=2.5")? Thanks.
I buy all my brass from here. http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?id=84&step=2
I am in the States and I am not sure if they ship internationally.
Thanks! I saw that firm and that they had something with an ID of 2.5", but the wall is a bit too thick. I’ll contact them and see what they say.

I don’t know if such a thing exists. You could get a piece from Online metals and turn it down to the required thickness or roll it.
If you’re in Howth there’s a few makers very close to you that could help. Hanneman, Thompson, De Keyser.

ask your local goldsmith about it.
You could try http://www.smithmetal.com.
They do a large selection of tubes including 2 5/8 inch x 16 swg (66.675 mm outer, 1.626 mm walls, 63.423 mm inner), near enough? you could always skim the inside.
you would probably have to buy a 12 inch length though
Hope this helps
If you wanted to roll it from sheet brass ,what size would the piece of brass have to be to end up with a tube with an ID of 63.5mm ?

Within a hair of 200 mm wide, plus any extra you might need for overlap and soldering.
For rolling a ferrule from sheet metal the formula that I use is;
Inside diameter required + thickness of the sheet X Pi .
Roll the piece and the edges butt together ( no overlap)… where they can be soldered…
Measurements have to be quite exact but remember that Diameters are more that three times smaller than Circumferences so any mistakes cutting the length of the strip will be divided by three on diameter…
You need a Mandrel of something solid ,metal is ideal but very hard wood will do, for pulling the soldered piece round. Tapered ferrules are easier to finish. ![]()
Thanks, everyone! This is extremely helpful,
