I need brass tubing that’ll fit each whistle in my Sindt collection (Eb to A), but couldn’t find a thing at Home Depot or Lowe’s. I’m obviously looking in the wrong place, can someone enlighten me?

Hobby stores usually have a selection of brass tubing in various diameters, thicknesses, and lengths.
Try a hobby shop.
What are you planning to do, make new whistle bodies? Sounds interesting

I’ve also purchased Delrin, Aluminum and Steel from them.

Yes, I’m going to make some new bodies for my Sindts. I hope, with some experimentation, to come up with a body for each whistle that will play a good cross fingered “C natural”, while of course retaining the whistle’s all around tuning and playability. This should be a real learning experience for me since I’m new to this, wish me luck!

Thanks for your post because I was thinking about buying some brass tubing also. I am thinking about using Generation fipples and brass tubing to make different whistles(Bflat fipple to make an A whistle, C fipple and make a B whistle and a Eflat fipple for a E whistle).
If anyone has tried this or have hole dimensions/placements let me know.

My son has done metalworking, and when I passed along the question to him he suggested McMaster-Carr Supply Company:
They list 36 sizes (different i.d. and wall thicknesses) of brass tubing, from 1/8" to 2" diameter. It says of the material, “Made of unpolished low-lead yellow brass.”
Worried about the idea of lead in brass, I discovered that the EPA definition of “lead-free” for pipe material is under 8% lead!

I know there was some discussion of the toxicity of other materials here recently, but has the lead content of brass come up before? And if so, was there a consensus on health risks? I’m assuming it wasn’t for us all to toss our Sindts and switch to silver, wood, and plastic … hmmm … although that would be a good excuse for an Abell and a Tully and a Rose and a Silkstone PVC and a …

For big brass and copper tubing 0.030" wall. Call a local Copper](http://www.copperandbrass.com/indexc.htm%22%3ECopper) and Brass Sales store. They also have concert flute grade Nickel-Silver at the Elkhart Indiana store.
One more thing, use type C260 Cartridge Brass. This type of brass machines nicely, strong and doesn’t crack easily. It’s just the right blend of copper and zinc.
They send out MSDS sheets which also contain the amount of materials including trace materials.

We use K & S Engineering for odd sizes of Brass tubing. Normally, we have it made-to-order, but most people don’t need 100 pounds (the minimum) of tubing.
