Copper .020

could someone direct me to a supplier of copper .020 in sheet format (as opposed to rolled)? Thanks

Here’s who I use. I would think the same or equivalent is near to you (wherever that may be).

talk to Otto. $12.95 for 12"X12" sheet.

How thick is the copper used to make hot water cyclinders? If it was the right thickness you could pick up a old one at a scrap yard pretty cheap.

RORY

Hot water copper seems a bit heavy to me, better I think for bridles.

Times being what they are, I would think you’d want to save those hot water tanks for making a still!

I think RS (radionics.ie in Ireland, electromail in the UK, not sure what their distributor in the US is called) stocks suitable copper in reasonably sized sheets (330mm square IIRC). Over here they stock 0.45mm sheet which is a little thinner than the 0.5mm usually used here - that’s about 0.018" instead of 0.020". Currently I mostly use 0.5mm from a roofing supply but I’ve used the 0.45mm too.

You can of course use brass instead in which case 0.45mm is plenty stiff - it changes the geometry of the reed head a bit of course since the resulting staples are a couple thou smaller on the outside..
