Lovely set of pipes.
The set looks very nice indeed, but the chanter sounds seriously out of tune. Prehaps better to sort out the chanter reed and the regulator reeds first and do a new video
if you’re selling the set that is?
Ah Mr Packet dont be so negative , have a listen to the lovely regs.

Hmm, well, a Danish friend, some years ago, never managed to get his Angus B/Bb in tune with itself. It came with something like 20-25 reeds, but to no avail. He sold it and I think it went back to the US. It’s a shame because the set looks well made. Prehaps if Brad was to look it over he could sort it out.

The youtube account and the workshop environment strongly suggest it is the maker of the set in the driving seat.

Yes, probably, so perhaps a work in progress then. Is it Brad Angus who has posted the youtube clip?
I enquired ,why no text with the OP ,but the moderator saw fit to delete that post for some reason.A little information about the set would be nice

No, you did not. It was a snide, cute comment with no context, leaving it wide open to interpretation as a comment on the piper’s playing.
And commentary such as this is in violation. But you have begun your post in bad faith, and that bears pointing out.
There. See how easy that was?
Ok I kinda see your point ,but I thought my post being directly after the op was obviously pertaining to that post. I personally thought it lazy or rude ,which ever ,to post a link without some information about the link. After all there is a separate designated thread for just you tube clips.

Well, I’m glad we’ve got that cleared up. Please be more clear in the future, because I honestly thought you were taking a jab at the piper’s playing.
Don’t think it’s the chanter. Sounds more like the tenor reg to me.

Aye the regulators do need dialing in, but the chanter is not in tune with itself. The B is flat at least 20 cents and the E and e is very flat, the A# and F# are also very flat. This is a B set not a Bb and I can hear that the chanter is out of tune. Unless something is amiss with the bore it should be possible to sort out a decent reed. The sound (tonal quality is good)
I don’t think it’s advantageous at all to put up a video when the set sounds like this and obviously needs tweaking. It’s apparent that the piper (Brad?) can play the pipes, and I’d like to hear another video clip with the set in tune. I understand that Brad’s pipes are praised in the USA
In defense of the pipemaker:
His life is a cruel one. Many hours are spent playing on out of tune Pipes… whilst he endeavours to pull everything into tune at an acceptable pressure, with an acceptable volume and balance. This proceedure can take several weeks, as new reeds play in and the weather changes just at a crittical moment. Slowly slowly arriving at the finish point, the maker has probably spent more time playing ’ out of tune’ pipes , unless enthusiasm and energy can be found after work to pick up their own personal set, which remains IN-Tune… one hopes.
It is possible for a worker to become de-sensitized to the noises in his work space. ![]()
Geoff,I understand your desire to defend a fellow pipemaker ,but you’d think he’d learn from previous mistakes

Does he not own an electronic tuner for the very reason that ears can get tired and also why put the vid of out of tune pipes on the interweb. Its hard to understand.
RORY
Agreed Rory… tis hard to fathom the reason, for sure. There is only one explaination that makes any sense .
Ah Geoff you’re such a gentleman and your discretion is a credit to you, you obviously have not been bitten by the surly bug that affects so many of us on this forum.
RORY
Setting up a new Pipes is enough to make anyone surly… setting up more than 200 of the #ù*µ¤éç& things over a lifetime is apt to make one humble…
Yes I am in the middle of the month that it will take me to bring a new set into playing condition and I’ve already refused two requests of ’ give us a wee tune on them"…
The more prominent ( well known, excelent player, huge family history etc etc blaa blaa) the piper is the higher the stress level on the maker… and they don’t come any higher than my current customer(s)… so
So, I’ll away and leave ye to yer musings. ![]()
So when you made the set for Mr G ,that must’ve been the easiest set you ever made. See what I mean about surliness ! only joking MR G
