I’ll chime in with my own opiinion here. I have hi D, an low G in blackwood, and A in olivewood, and a C & Bb in Mopani. Overall all I love them all. My favorites woul be th d, the Bb, and A, the C has a little more breath in the sound but that contrasts nicely with my Boisvert Cs purity.
The G is in a class by itself and wuld like tio spend more time with it. As some have written the upper notes can get shrill on these but the answer for me seems to give them the air they want and this tames the screech and gives a good full sound, That’s my story & I’m stickenn to it!
Yeah, I’d be happy to help. Just drop the Holunder off on your way to work some morning. It’ll probably take me a few months to get the recording right. ![]()

Yeah, I figured as much. ![]()
So, between 5:30 and 6:00 am is not too early?
If you’re planning to make a clip, can we get one of the Low D Bleazey?
Video clip would be great if one of you aren’t too afraid of the camcorder ![]()

Doc’s sound system is WAY better than any vid camera would ever hope to be.
He is working on the F whistle tonight. Not sure when we will be able to get to the low d.
Hey, Doc, didn’t we post one of the mopane low d some time ago?
Yeah, didn’t you do Down by the Sally Gardens on it? I’ll see if I can find it.
The Holunder is here:
Having a bit of trouble…coming back soon.
Sounds dang good for a former tree branch. It wants a gentler breath than I gave it. Lovely tooter though.
Doc
Here’s Stephen on the Bleazey Low-D.

Not the best recording. I think this was done with his computer mic. These Bleasey Low-Ds are lovely sounding whistles.
Stephen, if you want to bring that one over tomorrow and toot it into a better mic you’re welcome. I might even let you have your Holunder back.![]()

See the difference between MY recording device and Doc’s???
BTW, Doc, there is a BUNCH of dead air at the end of the F recording.

I included that so people could have some time to recover after listening to my playing. LOL

Gee, Doc, that Holunder wav file is HUGE, 33 MB. I’d guess many people on dial-up connections won’t really be able to access it.
Check your e-mails … ![]()
