BC Practice set on ebay

The seller seems to be using images from BC’s website. Considering what’s happened with the “Froment” set, I’m a little suspicious. Does anyone know the seller?

My guess is that it is also fraudulent. That is the photo from Song of the SEa’s site, and it includes an O’Grady chanter.

from the listing on ebay:

With the exception of a pop valve the chanter is identical to the one pictured on the “Song of the Sea” website - www.songsea.com. This is where I originally purchased the set.

Post 999 for you!

I dunno. You guys think the BC one isn’t legit? It seems reasonable. Though I guess there are lots of scammers on ebay. Kinda scary.

It’s not that I think the seller’s a fraud. It’s just that already today, the same guy has twice posted a Froment set on ebay using 2 different seller names. The general concensus seems to be that this is bogus - the supposed seller lifted the image from someone’s website and is pretending to have pipes for sale.

On the same day, someone else advertises a Childress practice set and again uses images taken from an other website. Add to that, he bought it from Song of the Sea, not directly from BC, so we can’t email BC and check out the set or the seller.

It’s a little fishy.

However, if the seller is bona fide, someone on this forum might know him and be able to vouch for him.

Then this is a good time to stop.

Buh-bye everyone.

I’m going to play and practice and practice and play instead of webbing.

   Happy Grand Brianc!!! I think I’ll join ya’… if only in spirit.

This is not a fraudulent listing. I posted the photos from the Song of the Sea website as those are the only ones I had access at the time. I have all the receipts from the original purchase from Song of the Sea.

Thank you.

can you post the real pictures, It kinda still mis-represents the pipes a little with those brand new shiney pictures…

This my first attempt at listing something on ebay so I’m kind of muddling through it. As soon as I figure out to get photos into my computer I’ll post them. Thanks.

I don’t know this seller, but as we both live in the same metropolitan area..if people are interested in the set, I would be happy to look at them and make sure everything is in good order before you bid.

Works for me Davey, thanks!

Hi Bob,

No offence was meant. It was just that the phantome Froment set was a bit of a reality check. Bruce Childress makes beautiful pipes. I’ve had the privilege of playing both a half set and a 3/4 set made by him.

The photos you have now posted on Ebay look great. You’re selling a quality instrument. I hope you get a good price. If I wasn’t already waiting for delivery of drones from Nick Whitmer, I’d probably bid on your half set, just to have the chanter - it looks beautiful and knowing the work Bruce puts into his instruments, no doubt it sounds beautiful also. For the chanter alone, Bruce charges $1,260.

Regards,

PJ

2 days to go and this set is still only at $1,026. The chanter alone is worth more. Some lucky fool is going to get a nice practice set very cheap.

If only I had the cash!

You seem as eager as anyone I know to get into the pipes, PJ. Isn’t there a pipers’ club where you can get a practice set on loan for a few months? At the Irish Pipers’ Club (www.irishpipersclub.org) we regularly loan out practice sets and give lessons to anyone who is interested enough to join the club for $18 (US) a year.

John,

I’m in the Quebec Irish Pipers Club. Unfortunately, we’re not many. About 10 for the whole of the province. We meet every two or three months to exchange tunes and reed making/maintenance tips.

We usually meet in Montreal but on April 16 next we’re meeting in Quebec City. Anyone interested in attending is welcome.

PJ
