Bass regulator issues

Hi All

My bass regulator has never been right since the day I got the regs. While the C, B and A notes play ok, the G wants to double tone. I even had an experienced reed maker try and knock me up a new reed and still I get double toning. The other strange thing, the G is the only note I can get mostly in tune as well. Should I follow a fellow pipers advice and send it back to the maker to get the boring of the pipe and tone holes checked?

This seems to be a fairly common problem (like jumping the octave, or an overly-loud bass reg). A different sized reed staple may help.

Thanks for the advice. Any idea on which way to go for a different sized staple? larger or smaller?
