I’m finally getting around to ordering a bag cover for my half-set from Hastings. So, should I go with velvet or microsuede? Is one less slippery than the other?
I’ve got one stitched together from human skin for that Silence of the Lambs/Ed Gein look.
…for real though. I dig the naked leather look, but if I had to have a bag cover I’d go with velvet.

I would stay away from the velvet. The material is too “slippery” and my velvet bag tended to slide down away from my arm.
I have both the corduroy and micro suede covers and both are equally as good. The corduroy has a slight edge because it is easier to put on and take off of the bag.
You have to make sure that the pile of the velvet goes in the right direction.
They seem to offer both velvet and velveteen. Velvet can be very slippery but velveteen is better - not slippery and does not end up looking nasty after it has been under your arm for a while. I would go with velvetEEN.
How about a plain leather bag?..with no cover, in other words.
Pudinka, I want a cover for when I play with short sleeves in the summer. I’d like to keep some of the sweat/body oils/general gunk off the leather. Not so great for it.
I´ve read a post recently by Pat Sky answering another piper about a dark spot on his bag´s leather where the left arm sets.Pat´s answer was that the dark hardened leather was due to fungi and bacteria causing the bag to leak, so although my bag didn´t leak I saw a little darker spot, and inmediately put on my green velveteen cover… just in case.

Okay, I get all that, but that too is why I don’t like a cover. I had one initially too.
When I had to replace the original bag, I found that a “skin side” bag was much cooler and I play most of the time in a tank top and shorts (skin, armpits and all) and I’ve been using the same bag (again, no cover) for at least 8 years now and it is good as new - no oil stains, etc. and while I’d describe my skin as oily. And it’s a bit hotter, and a lot more humid here in summer (and the rest of the year)…like saying that Maine is colder in winter than Texas. It seems better adapted here in the Sweat Belt to me.
