B.C. Childress B set now on eBay

Hi Lorenzo,

I could ask more, but $5250 is what I paid for it, and the last thing I want to do is screw another piper. I don’t know what the original owner paid for it, probably more, and it is very similar in construction or may have been the B set on BCs site for a while, I think it was listed a bit over $6000.

I did put a few hundred dollars into it for new reeds, since the previous owner was in a different climate, and its been a fantastic intro into flat sets. I could ask more, but I’m motivated to find it a new home with the new C set coming in a while. If it doesn’t sell by the time my new set is done, I’ll probably keep it, just to have a B set, but for cash-flow purposes, it would be helpful to have it sold…

Michael

You can always ask the Seller for the Reserve Price, sometimes it is provided and sometimes not.

Also, when selling, the Seller can publish or not the Reserve Price. eBAY does not disclose it but the Seller can.

The Buy-It-Now feature does cap the auction price but with one ENTER, someone can buy it without competing. When selling, one has to factor in the frustration factor of not selling it at a price. You never know who might be looking in on your auction at any time! Items that don’t have bids one week might have six bidders next week.

Michael, I agree with you not wanting to screw another piper. You have more invested, and the set is worth a lot more, therefore no one would get screwed, IMO.

Selling is a funny thing. My cousin tried selling a nice Baldwin baby grand piano for $4500, locally, and it never sold in the two months it was advertised. So finally, he decided to ask what it was actally worth ($8500) and it sold the first week. I guess some people are skeptical of obvious bargains, that’s all we could make of it.

I agree with Jim, it’s nice for seller to reveal his reserve to everyone 12 hrs. before auction ends, if it’s not getting many bids, so people don’t come close, yet not far enough.

I was just pointing out that it is eBAY’s policy not to publish the Reserve but, for most seller’s, since it reflects a satisfying price, it is OK to publish it. The big auction houses (Sothebys, etc) often publish reserve prices.

The greatest thing is that if an item does not work out for someone, they can likely turn around and sell it on eBAY fairly painlessly. The double chanter from the Busby collection sold almost immediately for the price that was paid over a year ago.

I played a very faithful copy of a '59 Les Paul once. It even said “Gibson” on the headstock, I think the “i” wasn’t dotted or some similiar BS way of evading piracy. Helluva guitar.
Guitars compared to pipes seem like toothpicks to high end pool cues to me anymore. Who can’t crank out a good guitar? Oooh, got to have that choice mahogany, Alnico magnets!
It cracks me up when these companies faithfully reissue old instruments that had crappy designs, too.

Now that all youse wise guys have told our friend Michael how he should proceed to sell his instrument…howsabout steppin’ up to da plate to buy it!

It probably hasn’t sold because Mike’s flipping the customers off!

Thank you Kevin for pointing that out, I was wondering why it hadn’t sold.

Only a few days left… someone is going to kick themselves if they don’t jump on this…

No seriously, I’d love to see this go to a good home…

M

I’d love to see them come to my home, although the chrome’s a little too shiny for me  Someone buy them!

Dionys

Yep, that’s what it is! The chrome’s too shiny. That would definitely put anyone off their feed!

djm

I’d be happy to cover all the chrome with flat black paint if that would sell it…

M

Oh no! Just personal preference. Honestly, though, all that matters to me is the sound. It could be the ugliest set ever made, sound beautiful and command a good price. If I had the 5250 to spare, I’d buy the set. Or I suppose 5000 if no one bids on it. I do hope someone comes up with the money, though in these economic times I’m sure it’s tough.

Dionys

Mike, I think your set is great! I love the chrome..if I had the bread I would buy it..no problem..I hope someone buys it, it sure is wonderful set..I wish nothing but the best for you Mike!..good luck!

OK, we’re down to the wire…

My guess is that I’m going to have to relist it… hope not…
