Seller doesn’t know what they’re dealing with, by their own admission. Looks like the top of the bass drone has snapped off. Odd that it’s not a single piece standing joint as is usual with Taylors and copies. Maybe a replacement. Also odd that the set’s been in the seller’s family for a long time, but obviously someone had the new bag made in recent times.

Is that about the usual market price for old taylor/copies? Lastly, did they use palm ivory nut as mounts back then? I thought this was a relatively new kind of mount.
Your right about the seller being confused. I think that they think they are somehow some kind of highland pipe!
Palm nut (tagia) is good for turning tiny pieces, not mounts on UPs. Seller just doesn’t know his ivory.
Under 2K, yes. Good catch, SRHill. They don’t look too bad a set.
Baritone reg’s snapped off at the tenon end. Metal bend at the end of the bass drone slider looks to be a brass replacement - there’s a silver one too which looks to be damaged, one of the tubes in the ‘H’ is missing, I think it’s the little tube appearing above the silver H. That would match the silver soundbox.
The lump of metal above the H is the chanter’s ring shaped F natural key. Might have a broken mount. I think the B flat key is gone as well. Going to require a fair deal of “restoration.” Going to ask the seller for some more photos.
Oh, I see that in eBay’s bidding history your user name is mostly blanked out; I’d be K*n, for instance. Still, "fk" is pretty amusing. Might use that on another forum.

Use yer common sense - they are almost certainly mounted in real Ivory which is a negative in these politically correct times with and this is just a ruse to get them listed
from ebay : > Vintage bagpipe. Everything original. I have no idea about bagpipes and have tried to take pictures of all the pieces. I have the original wooden box. This has been in our family a very long time. Wood is ebony with palm nut ivory. Needs cleaned. I have never heard it played. L & M is embossed on the bag. i do not know if the connectors are sterling. Nobody here knows how to put it together> .
I suspect the seller knows more than he is letting on - how long have L&M been making bags - not that long

My thoughts exactly. I saw this set while browsing through an eBay search on bagpipes (then came here to read what was being discussed about them…knew there would be a thread 
). In the same search I saw a set of highland pipes listed as having “real authentic mounts” which really amounts to nothing unless you do as Elmek did and use yer common sense.

The bass drone looks like it’s been mostly replaced. As pointed out above, it’s a “looped” bass drone not a barrel bass drone. Also, the slide section looks to be of brass. Looks like it has been entirely replaced.
I’ve seen several copies of Taylor chanters with the Ribbon keys but no copies of the older taylor style block keys (except modern copies by Chris Bayley). Maybe it’s the fabled made-in-Ireland Taylor set.

I believe that the set in this photo is a Taylor set, not a copy.
Sure looks pristine for an original. I’m sure the Taylors didn’t do all of their mounts the same, but all of the examples shown of original Taylor mounts by David Quinn in his Piper’s Review Article (can’t remember the issue) use a different design and configuration. I’m no expert by any stretch of the imagination though, perhaps there are other examples out there?

Eh, like I said, I’m no expert…I’m not ashamed to admit it! All things considered it made sense at the time. Thanks for providing the info and confirmation of genuine Taylor-ness. Nice set!!
Aah, ok, I remember seeing mention of this on Thomas Johnson’s site now. I’m surprised he didn’t mention the condition though…unbelievable. Some people have all the luck…
