I have this all-brass azarkar whistle. At least, that’s what the name looks like, I think. Anyone know where they come from or have comments on them? Just wondering.
Hey G,
I think I may be able to help. The Azarkar whistle is made in the Middle East, something like Pakistan or India. They are a relatively inexpensive, nicely made whistle, they play pretty well and are fairly in tune INTERNALLY. What I learned from Dale after getting a few of them is that they are consistently about 1/4 tone (sharp) out of tune. It’s like the maker used a really cheap tuner when designing them.
I find them enjoyable to play, but really can’t play with any other instruments (other than a bodhran perhaps). They show up on e-Bay regularly and with the above stipulations, not a bad whistle for the price.
Vinny
PS Don’t take them to a session.
