Anybody ever heard of an Azurka (or is it Asurka)? I found a low g one for $15 at a music festival over the fourth. it’s all metal, looks like brass. It says tin flute on it instead of tin whistle. I think it’s conical…I don’t have it with me right now because it was accidentally stepped on…an experienced flute/whistle repairman/maker friend of mine fixed it for me (with a tire iron…), and I’m still waiting to get it back in the mail. I’ll have details when I get it back.
Note: I think this was a cheaply made whistle. I pick up a new whistle and the mouthpiece is in line with the holes…I pick up this one and it feels like the mouthpiece (if it can be called that when it’s not a separate peice from the rest of the whistle) it crooked.
Anyone know anything about this dirt-cheap G?

On the slow airs page of Clips, there are a couple of tunes played on an Asarkar from India by Aaron Walden.

I think it’s the same brand as my low D, alright. They’re imported from India, and the low G sells for $8 plus S&H from mid-east.com, Song of the Sea sells them for $14.
Mine has a letter V surrounded by the words “Asarkar Made in India.” Below this there is a band which says in cursive script Pipole (best as I can make out) Asarkar. These are made of brass with a straigh bore, and a metal fipple (plug). The basic design is similar to an Overton, I suppose, just a lot rougher craftsmanship.
I have an Asarkar whistle in C, if that’s what you’re talking about. It might be, because mine is all-brass too. It’s not a very good whistle, but it’s not that bad, either. It sort of has some chiff to it, but it’s a buzzy chiff. It sort of looks like the copeland pictures. I’m not sure where it came from–my mom put it in my stocking for Christmas one year. Sorry, I’m not much of a help
