Anyone want to trade a whistle for a recorder?

Okay, when you stop laughing, I’ll continue…

Finished yet? No? Okay, I’ll wait (taps foot)…

Right then, I’ll just plow ahead through the remaining chuckling. I know we have some closet recorder players out there. I happen to have a new Yamaha Alto recorder, that I’ve never used, and never will, which I’d be interesting in trading. It’s a Yamaha YRA-302BII brown plastic recorder with full imitation ivory sleeves (Headjoint, socket, tenon and foot sleeves.) Includes grease, instruction and fingering chart, as well as a nice vinyl carrying case.

These are really high quality, excellent sounding and playing, lower cost recorders. Sure, it doesn’t compare to the $1,500.+ wooden recorders I used to make, but for the money, these are generally considered the best bang for the buck out there.

If anyone is interested in making some sort of trade, please pm me.

Thanks,

Loren

If it’d been a tenor, you might have had me. :frowning:

Ive got a fiver if we chip in thats 15 she might go for it

Well, I suppose I’ve waited long enough to give this a bump…

Here I am. Check your PM. What key is it in.

What kind of whistle are you interested in trading for? I have a soprano and a tenor Yamaha and an alto would finish out my set.

…or is it the ever-elusive B# Sweetone you’re after?

Loren, out of curiosity, have you ever played a Zen-On Bressan alto?

I tried one and was very impressed…if you’ve tried both, how does the Yamaha compare to the Zen-On?

–James

You got a bass or a sopranino? :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, I don’t need a B# sweetone at the moment

The recorder lists for about $45. and seems to sell for around $30. Musician’s friend has a description and photo, plus some reviews here: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Yamaha-YRA302B-Professional-Alto-Recorder-with-Baroque-Fingering?sku=460043&src=3WFRWXX

So I’m looking for something of approximately the same value in trade, or perhaps a whislte worth a bit more, and I could pay the difference. However spare cash is in short supply for me at the moment, so trading for a Copeland or something similar probably isn’t going to work out…

If someone has a Sindt, I’d certainly consider that. What I’d REALLY like is an Olwell Bamboo F (I’d consider other keys as well) if anyone has one they aren’t using…

At any rate, I’m open to listening to all offers, just shoot me a pm with the details.

Thanks,

Loren

Actually, no. I can’t afford the bass and my marriage is worth more than the sopranino.

The Yamaha and the Zen-On are both very good, we carried, and sold, quite a few of both at VH. They are based on different historical instruments though, so it’s a bit like comparing apples and oranges - The Zen-On you mention was designed, as I recall, by FVH as sort of a cross between the Bressan and Stansby Jr. altos, where the Yamaha essentially follows the rottenburg design. Both are excellent values for the money, and it really just comes down to one’s preference with regards to what you like in sound and playability.

Any one want to trade a whistle that I could trade for the recorder.

Then I really suggest you avoid the garklein!!! :astonished: I have a cheapy Aulos one - I can barely get my fingers to fit on the holes! Still, it rounded out the collection (Aulos garklein, Aulos sopranino, modified Zen-On soprano, modified Zen-On alto, Yamaha tenor) – all plastic, but certainly commiserate with my playing abilities…

The smallest member of the recorder family, only 6 1/2 inches (16 1/2 cm) long!

Wow.

Tried and disliked both. That is one reason we are involved with whistles and flutes now. The other was the price of quality recorders that you mentioned previously. Got a superior sounding and infinately easier to play Bleazey in olive for 1/3 the price.

Yeah, top of the line recorders are expensive. Fact is, they’re bitch to make, when compared with flutes, which cost essentially the same thing. There is a lot more profit in flute making than recorder making, at least with regards to the hand made variety. The combination of the decorative outside turnings and making and voicing the headjoints is where most of the additional man hours go. Plus you’re working with Boxwood, so you have far more rejects.

Whistles and keyless flutes are cheap and easy to make, by comparison.

Just had a thought, I’d be happy to trade the recorder for an original copy of the new WFO 3 CD set. Even trade, would seem fair. Anyone?

Loren

Last try: Any other offers of trades for the Yamaha Alto Recorder? Whistles (no tweaks thanks, I’m quite capable of doing that sort of thing myself), flutes, a copy of Riverdance…er, no, well maybe not that last one. How about a Spillane Low D? Okay, I’m just being silly now.

Back to serious: Anyone have a copy of Shannon Heaton’s instructional book/CD set “Oil for the chain” that they’re finished with? I’d be happy to trade for that.
