For Sale or Trade: Chieftain Gold Whistles

Hola Amigos! Been a while since I did any horse trading of whistles, so I figured I’d do a little summer cleaning:

I have Chieftain Gold whistles in the following keys that I’d be willing to trade or sell:

Soprano D
Soprano C
Mezzo Soprano B Natural
Mezzo Soprano A
Alto G

I also have an F and a Bb that I am planning on keeping for the time being, but if someone offers a trade or an offer I can’t refuse…well, then I can’t refuse!

Honestly, the G has significant tuning issues. It could be improved quite a bit, but I’m not interested in spending the time on it, so that whistle is maybe best for someone inclined to tweaking. The other whistles are typical Chieftains, if you know what I mean.

As far as trades go, I’d be happy to trade value for equal value, so one or more of my whistles for one or more of yours, depending on the value of each.

Stuff I’d be interested in trading for:

Whistles - Overton (Goldie), Abell, Copeland, Swayne, possibly a Chieftain Gold Low D, O’Riordan, Water Weasel, Thin Weasel, Busman, OZ Vembrance, would consider any Laughing whistles, particularly a Low D… I am sure I’ll think of others, so don’t let my list stop you from contacting me if you have something you want to trade, I may very well be interested.

Flutes - Olwell or possibly Miller bamboo. Any good quality Delrin or wooden flutes. Doesn’t necessarily have to be a D flute.

Mandolins/Guitars - What cha got?? I could use a Little Martin Guitar, a Baby Taylor, a decent 12- string, a National RM-1 Mando :smiling_imp: etc, etc. Seriously, if you have a mando or guitar you might want to trade for several whistles, give me a shout.

Drums - OK, so shipping a full drumset or even Congas isn’t practical, although I could use both, but maybe someone has a nice Djembe they want to part with? I could be game for that.

Bicycles/Parts - Maybe if you are local to Boston for a bike, or if you happen to have a used Shimano XTR mountain bike derailleur, because my cage busted off in a crash :sniffle: Willing to also consider cycling shoes in size 41.5 or 42, plus assorted parts.

Polar or Suunto Heart Rate Monitor - Would have to be in good working condition and a relatively new model.

Osprey or Gregory Backpack - medium size frame I am guessing.

Rock Climbing Gear - Not interested in your 5 fall rope that has already taken 25 whippers…

Red Sox Tickets at Fenway - OK, so this is a wicked long shot, but there is this girl I work with, soooooo cute, HUGE Red Sox Fan, kinda likes me but we haven’t gone out yet… you get the idea

Other stuff - I dunno, let me know what cha got, might be something I need, although Sox tickets would be best

Sorry, I should have mentioned the following:

A) Chieftain Gold whistles are made of Brass, not aluminum.

B) None of the whistles I have for sale/trade are tunable.

Thanks and sorry for any confusion.

Loren

Sigh. Maybe I’m an old romantic, but wouldn’t it be nicer to woo her with a tune on a whistle in the moonlight than to trade your whistles for tickets for some sort of sporting contest? Maybe fellow chiffers could suggest tunes suitable for winning a girl’s heart. I’ll start the ball rolling with “Ned of the Hill”, complete with guitar chords.

T: Ned Of The Hill

W:Oh dark is the evening and silent the hour
W:Oh who is that minstrel by yon shady tower?
W:Whose harp is so tenderly touching with skill
W:Oh who could it be but young Ned of the Hill?
W:And he sings, "Lady love, will you come with me now?
W:Come and live merrily under the bough.
W:I’ll pillow your head where the light fairies tread
W:If you will but wed with young Ned of the Hill.
W:
W:Young Ned of the Hill has no castle or hall,
W:No bowmen or spearmen to come at his call.
W:But one little archer of exquisite skill
W:Has loosed a bright shaft for young Ned of the Hill.
W:It is hard to escape to this young lady’s bower
W:For high is the castle and guarded the tower.
W:But where there’s a will there’s always a way
W:And young Eileen is gone with young Ned of the Hill.

Update:

Very sorry for the delayed update and/or replies to some folks who wrote to me about the whistles: I got slammed at work and have literally been working 14-16 hour days and sleeping about 3 hours at night. The nature of my job (Personal Trainer, Boxing/Martial Arts instructor, and Indoor Cycling instructor) is such that I don’t really get a chance to be at the computer much, if at all, during the day. Again, I apologize to all.

The D, C, and Bnat whistles are spoken for pending payment.

I have had a lot of interest in the A whistle, but don’t have that sorted out yet, so I may still contact you if you wrote to me about the A.

The G whistle, quite frankly, is a dog. So, I am going to offer it cheap, if anyone even wants it. Here’s the deal: The tuning sucks: It is not in very good tune with itself, and even when warm it plays flat as a whole. The tuning could be improved quite a bit by someone with the skills, but I have neither the time nor inclination. If you are a tinkerer, tweaker, or would be maker who wants to futz with it, I’ll sell you the thing for $50., shipping included (to the USA only)

I also have an Alto F Chieftain gold that I would consider trading for another Alto F whistle or an Olwell Bamboo F flute. I really dislike the smell brass leaves on my hands.

Likewise I have a Chieftain Gold Bb that I’d potentially be willing to trade for another non brass Bb whistle. A Goldie Overton would be perfect  but I won’t hold my breath.

Thanks again,

Loren

Update:

The D, C and Bnat whistles are gone.

A and Bb are on hold for the moment: If you have something interesting to trade, give me a shout.

I am also putting my Gold Low F up for sale. These are hard to find. Condition is very good, a little tarnish and some light scratches. Quality and playability are about average for a Chieftain. The bottom two notes are not as solid as an Overton, but they are not bad at all. Overall volume is medium, not earsplitting loud. $150. +$10 priority mail shipping and insurance. I am also open to trades on this whistle as well: Other non-brass whistles, flutes, mandolas, octave mandolins, 12 string guitars… Basically I am getting rid of all my brass whistles because I don’t care for the smell of brass on my hands, which is not particular to these whistles.

Cheers,

Loren
