Anyone seen the Tyros3?

I’m not an Uilleann piper, nor do I claim to be one. Just thought you guys might want to see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=if2sZNQv1Ok. What do you pipers say about it, concerning its realism?

As a keyboardist, I’m just about drooling…

Oh Danny Boy, Oh boy, Oh boy…

Where are the bellows?

Why not, as there are a lot of other instruments in keybords and synthesizers. The sound is rather Ok. A few years ago a bagpipe sounded like a… , you tell me.
But the only thing I don’t like is this tune and harmonics of an electronic organ. In Belgium we call that Kitsch.

Groeten,
Patrick

Ok, I couldn’t resist:

I can’t say what I really think as the forum rules prohibit vulgar, offensive, abusive language of a crude, sexual, or scatological nature. But my thoughts do encompass all of the above, plus a bit of the sacrilegious just because I like it  :swear: :imp:

Let me just say that as far as realism goes, it’s good enough for crappy film scores and bland studio recordings with words like “Celtic” and “Faire” and “Faerie” and other Yeatsoid crapola in their titles (no disrespect meant to WB himself).

You’re not gonna fool anyone the first time you try to play anything faster or tighter than a slow air.

edited 1 time for clarity and a little extra mustard.

But the harmonics are a lot beter here

True enough, but as was said, it’s a huge improvement on anything done previously. Plus, even this keyboard costs less than a full set of Uilleann pipes. “Only” 3900 dollars!

Now if I could only get my pipes to stop sounding like a piano!!

Plus, for added realism, you have to pry off the top and fiddle with the circuits every 15 minutes or so.

hahahaha…kiss wir stage & soundtrack gigs bye-bye!!! :really:

This thing worries me more: http://www.redpipes.eu

true, 'tis only playing highland right now…
but its only a matter of software & chips before it plays uilleann…and nsp…and ssp…and border pipes…and veuze…and biniouKozh…and gaita gallega…and cornemuse du centre…and zampogna…and gaida…in any key of choice…with rests…and dynamics… :waah:

Ive already seen one celtic rockband’s whistle player ‘doubling’ on the thing…doing all his whistle licks with a bagpipe sound…right through the PA mains…with effects…

Say, it’s not bad considering the sound is synthesized, not sampled.

The synthesised uilleann/ssp/gaita etc thing has been done.

Cyberpiper has done it.

I saw his act at Piping Live a couple of years ago, before I saw it i would have sworn I would have hated it, but after seeing it, it was obvious the amount of time, effort and skill he put into it and I actually enjoyed it.

David

aahhh. I remember the good ol days… modular moog’s filling the room…patch cords..hours of work for one "bleep!‘’…the ‘lab-like’ atmosphere…dreaming of owning a synclavier, & having more operators… hmmm maybe synthes & UP’s have more in common than I thought…

Naaaaaahhhhh!!!

I dunno Davy… not like Im ready for depends & ensure yet, but I feel kinda ‘aged-out’ for his act…contrived…cheesey…

I’m afraid I will have to go against the naysayers, here. I think the sound of these electronic bagpipes is excellent for the types of music they are being used for.

(mind if I embolden your text?)
that’s the critical portion right there…anyone unhappy with having to do un-pipe-y stuff
will need to find another kvetchpoint;
flip side: anyone looking to pickup the odd studio layover is pretty much out of luck.

As a former guitarist and horn player, I can say without reservation that your average jobbing keyboard player with a music degree will do anything and I mean ANYTHING for $40…or a diet coke (thanks, Lisa Lampanelli!).

I don’t know what to think. I’m still recovering from Mr. D’Arcy’s “By Dougal Possessed” avatar.

Although I must admit I’m struck by the irony of the name.

Well, the sound is okey. This player in the video uses so-called VST’s. A VST is a virtual instrument that is mostly recorded once from a real instrument and can now be used as a sampled one. The sound is very realistic (not a strange thing when its recorded from a real instrument) and kills all the keyboard and midi sounds out there.

I compose orchestral music for my band and for myself so I wanted to have the most realistic option without having to record a real orchestra.

So there are VST’s for almost every instrument. For Orchestra instruments, ethnic instruments, guitars, drums and so on.

Well, here you can download a composition of me called “A breath of Ireland” where I use Bodhran, Uilleann Pipes and Orchestra Vst’s.
