Any Young Players!

This is for any players out there under the age of 18(or so). My name is Zac Leger, I’m 19(so I’m cheating) and I run(among many other things) an online Yahoo! group for teens who play or are interested in Irish music/instruments. Lately the club has been slow and I’d like to get some new people in, but actually finding new people has been hard. If you are interested, the group is located at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/teenswhoplayirishmusic

And I do ask that you at least be under 21 (I’m sorry Dale, but this means you cannot join no matter how youthful you may appear).

Slan,
Zac Leger

(I’m 17, just so you know)

I won’t say exactly how old I am (just because I’m paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get me) but it rhymes with “smeventeen.”

Wow, I think this is the first time I got called “old” at 22 grin

Unless if you count the time some kid held a door open for me and said “Ma’am”

18 here. I’ll be joining the group; it sounds fun.

Hello everyone…

I am nineteen…and I’m interested in how y’all got started playing Irish music…it’s not exactly the hippest thing to most younger people, whose conception of a whistle is either a)related to ‘that instrument everyone learns in third grade’ or b)that ‘high pitched flute thing on the Titanic soundtrack’…ah well. We’re ambassadors for culture I suppose…

…marilyn…

I got started because I was very into folk culture, which started around 6th grade… I started contra dancing and got totally obsessed, and basically got sucked into folk culture from there, and along the way, I started with the whistle.

Hi, I’m 17 & I just joined the group.
I started coz my dad decided to teach me when I was 5, so I’m lucky really, but I’ve put a kind of mini biography on the message board of the yahoo group if anyone’s interested.
Jo.

Greetings, my young friends.

I have something very important to share with you.

At your tender ages, you may not be thinking about therapy.

But remember, EVERY WHISTLER NO MATTER HOW OLD OR YOUNG, CAN BENEFIT FROM THERAPY.

Ask for a free psychological assesment TODAY.

Well done fluteboy suggesting the group. It’s cool the way you kids interact so well with we old farts, but I can understand you wanting your own area. Have fun mate!

How young do you mean?
Do you mean teens or twenties? I am 24. I play high and Low whistle and Uilleann pipes and guitar. Just thought I’d answer.
All the best
Joseph

soory didn’t see the other posts before my first message. If you all are ever in California, write me.
cheers to you all from the grandpa of the group…where’s my cane?
Joseph

Nemo Pudsy* - I already know that my psyche is hopelessly screwed up; I don’t need a psychological assessment to tell me that!

Zac, how exactly does one go about joining your group? I checked out your web page but I have this little problem in that I am technologically-challenged…in other words, I couldn’t figure out how to join! can you let me in on the info?

how I got started playing the whistle: I was in an Irish/folk music and instrument store in Bar Harbor, Maine (USA) last summer. I have this penchant for instruments and a craving to buy them. the cheapest instrument in the store was the whistle, so I checked it out, tried it out, and bought one. I now have two whistles and am beginning to show the first signs of suffering WhOA! I am not overly concerned about this. I practice when I can, but my roommate doesn’t enjoy the whistle as much as I do, so these practice sessions are neither long nor often. I think I am going through withdrawal…ok, maybe I DO need a therapist!

I’m 14 - I’ll check out your website, I might join!

I’m 17. Sure, why not.

Well, a lot of you seem interested, but only a few of you seemed to have joined so far.
Again the address is:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/teenswhoplayirishmusic
If you do not have a Yahoo! profile, you’ll have to create one in order to join. It’s pretty simple to set up. Just click on the link on the yahoo sign-up page. If anyone is having trouble figuring our how to join, please e-mail me: stonecirclemusic@hotmail.com
Hope to hear from more of you!

Slan,
Zac
