SO I’ve been trying to place international calls to flutemakers who don;t have e-mail addresses. I ordered international service from my cell provider, and tried dialing away.
Let’s just use this number as an example:
00353 91 562295
Can somebody provide me step-by-step directions on how to successfully dial this number? Variations I have tried:
00353 91 562295
1 00353 91 562295
353 91 562295
1 353 91 562295
I either get a busy signal (for other numbers too) or a “you can’t call that number” message from Verizon. Am I missing something totally obvious or am I cursed to order a flute from a maker with an email address?
If you’re in the States, you’ve got to put 011 in front of the 353. It should work after that.
One thing to beware of: in Ireland, England, and many other countries, there’s typically a zero in front of the regional or local exchange that gets dropped when you’re calling from outside the country. So for example in England you might dial 01 for London but from outside it’s just 1, so calling a number in London from the States would be 011-44-1-2543869 or something like that, whereas from within Britain it would be 01-2543869.
Doesn’t look like the number you’re trying to dial has any of those zeros, so just try with 011.
From Canada (which AFAIK shares its telephone conventions with the US), international calls start with “011” then the country code the city code and then the number. I’ve never seen a zero in front of the country code, but sometimes the zeros in front of the city code are used. So using your imaginary example (most country codes are 2 digits, I would dial “011 353 91 562295”
Here are the country codes for those I know with flute makers mentioned on this board:
Australia 61
UK 44
Ireland 353
Switzerland 41
France 33
You need to dial 011 in the US to get an international call, then you
need to dial the country code (e.g., 44 for UK, 353 for Ireland), then
the number.
Looks like 00353 91 562295 is what you’d dial from many other
countries, and perhaps within Ireland itself? In the US, use
011 353 91 562295
You should all work for Verizon customer service then - NO ONE in customer service (or at least the four who were working there today) gave me the correct info!
