No way, Kate, you’re totally cool.

You are playing one of the most eclectic of musical instuments. How many tubas will get you free beer at a pub?

You’re not a dork!

You mentioned homework - are you a teen? I’m 14!

Peace be the journey,
Sara

thank God. I’m not the only poor overworked highschool student who just wants to ditch homework and play the flippin whistle.

“The Flippin’ Whistle”…anyone want to make up a tune to match that title?

I have often avoided doing my Calculus homework by playing with my beloved whistles…

I play my whistles in the morning to let the entire household know I’m ready to go to school. I used to play at school some…but I started getting comments that aren’t appropriate for our lovely little board here.

i’m a college student, and i spent two hours on my whistle this afternoon to avoid writing an essay

A dork, no…
Whistle players are highly respected musicians. Just whip out your whistle in front of them sometime and play. They will be amazed that anyone can play more than Mary Had a Little Lamb! It is our duty as Whistlers to educate the less informed!
(and as you students are finding out, playing whistle is a great avoidance technique…)

Hey, what’s wrong with being a big dork?

I LIKE being a dork.

Harumph.

To Telegram Sam - Really? I’m taking calculus too and that’s the homework I’m abandoning. Calculus is so overrated.

there should be a separate board for homework-ditching-whistle-dorks.

it continues, it’s a long time since I did homework. I now skive of my work to play my whistle, which is better because I am getting paid to do it!
Does that make me a pro-whistle player?

Well, I was probably considered a dork when I was doing homework instead of having fun.

If you mean that calculus is overrated in terms of its usefulness and impact on other subjects and society as a whole, I must take exception. If you mean that its difficulty is overrated, that’s another matter.

Charlie

I just don’t take any classes that give me homework anymore, solves the whole problem

Don’t be ashamed of being a dork; in fact, flaunt it! The richest man in the world, Bill Gates (maybe you’ve heard of him?) is also the world’s most famous dork.

Dorks unite! Stand proud against the popular and pretty people who would trample you under the feel of their oppressive superficiality!

I agree about the calculus thing… Math is my worst subject (which means a B-C average…), and right now I’m taking Algebra II. And, it’s a major pain.

and, No, you’re not a dork.

Avoiding homework by playing whistle?? Cool! maybe I should try that…

Do you think Bill Gates plays the whistle too?? If he did it probably wouldn’t last for more than 10 minutes before it needed an upgrade. Then it would crash and he’d pay some poor soul to almost fix it, then he’d sell it to give someone else grief. Boy, am I glad I use a Mac;-)

Actually, I skip off work a bit early to play my whistle and most recently my uilleann pipes. Good for the soul and then you can concentrate on more work if it’s out of your system temporarily. Good thing I’m my own boss! (I’ve reprimanded myself a few times though - pretty soon I’ll be on probation and then likely out of a job - guess I could become a whistler/piper full-time). I think if I were a student though I’d perpetuate the break-taking.

Please don’t ever send Bill Gates an Uilleann Pipe!!!

Paul

Calculus can be a fun and entertaining subject, if you really have time to enjoy it, not something that you really get to do when you are struggling for marks in school. What Calculus does is really gives you the tools and ideas to truly manipulate the equations, instead of just wacking away at them with that algebraic hammer. It can also show just how the world around us are reflected in the numbers scrawled across the page, and reveals some hidden wonders in this world.

Ok, forgive me if none of this makes sense, but it’s 1:00am here and I’m half awake with insomnia, and yes, yes. I am a dork too. Maybe I should go play the whistle a bit, the neighbors won’t mind…
