Well, the Rocky Mountain gang has disbanded for another few months at least, but we did share some good music last weekend in Lander Wyoming, hosted by WyoBadger.
In attendance were myself, Sunnywindo, Brian Lee, Wyobadger of course, and Ron Rowe with his family. Also some local non-chiffy musicians.
Festivities kicked off Friday night when the Rowes got to town. The Avanutria Travel Coach was still en route and arrived at about 1 AM on Saturday.
On Saturday Tom treated us all to a homemade breakfast of biscuits, gravy, and elk sausage. After trying to kill us with this wonderful food, he took us up to a local place called Sinks Canyon and tried to kill us with some rock climbing. Only kidding, Tom. It was a lot of fun and I discovered a new hobby. Unfortunately during this excursion Mrs. Rowe got injured and the Rowes decided to leave for home that night. Ron, let us know how she is doing, ok?
The session Saturday night at Tom’s was nice, but a little strange because we were all exhausted from the hiking and climbing. A fiddler friend of Tom’s came over, so that was a nice addition. Tom served us Elk roast (and we came up with a new idea for a restaurant chain, but I’m not gonna be the one to announce the name) and some folks brought an ice cream maker, which produced a very tasty dessert.
On Sunday we went to a local coffee house called the Global and put on sort of a session/performance. That was fun. My favorite part was during John Ryan’s polka. Tom was soloing the A part on guitar and couldn’t do the notes fast enough, so for the second time through he played the double D note and hummed the rest. I burst out laughing and was unable to play my low whistle for a good portion of the B part while I tried to recover… ![]()
Due to my traveling 3,585 miles during the week of the session, I don’t have any pics for anyone. However, Sunnywindo took her camera and has promised me doubles. If she can get them to me before the 9th or so I can scan some and post them online.
A good time had by all. Thanks for the hospitality Tom, and safe journey to you!
