a cappella...

Well, this may not have qualified for another C&F forum, but…

(Warning: this track is virtually endless, that is, you’ll need to stop it yourself, whenever you’ve heard enough): http://dojo.fi/~rancid/loituma__.swf

And, as the original (Loituma, of Sibelius Academy, Helsinki, Finland): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjvVBCNcL_A

Yeah, that Sibelius!

Enjoy!

Edit: BTW, beyond what you see and hear on this “live” performance, these singers also have instrumental talents. For instance, the taller singer to the far left is also a talented violinist, the shorter singer to the far right has exceptional talent at the traditional Finnish kantele, and at five-row accordion, and the lead singer has gone on to other, most interesting professional recordings. Unfortunately, copyright laws prevent any further disclosure.

Very nice! Thanks for that!

I’m a big fan of a cappella. For me, the sound of unaccompanied voices singing in harmony stirs something deep inside, something that no other style of music touches. It’s an even more profound experience for me when I’m one of the singers. (Man, I really miss singing in a choral group…)

At the time of this post, could anybody imagine as to how the Loituma youtube post could have had more than three million (3.000.000) hits?

I was listening to Prairie Home Companion one Sunday, many years ago. In A Godda Da Vida…a cappella…it was brilliant.

unfortunately I was driving…I did manage to pull off of the road

I remember the original, at twenty-something minutes long, but a cappella? Whoa! I missed that one.

It had been reduced some…although a bit longer than a “45” version perhaps.

The drum solo rocked.

Yeah, there were two versions, the long one on LP, and the shorter, “commercial” version on a 45.

Wow! Tempus fugit!

BTW, I think I’m going to take a breather on the music forums for awhile, and maybe I’ll see you in the C&F cellar, eh? I’d like to expand my knowledge of HTML and computer graphics, as something which I am not so knowing of, but interested in, nonetheless.

I had a “pull off the road” too on Prairie Home Companion with these folks:

The song was The Beatles’ Helter Skelter

Catch them live if at all possible!

 thanks Paul

This is my new favorite song. What’s it about?

TECHNO VERSION!

(It takes a minute to pick up, but it is SO worth it. Listen.)

More Bobs White Room

Denny, @ White Room; that is a stunning performance! Wow! From beginning to end, that’s about as good as it gets!

The Bobs’ cover songs are really great and their own songs are too. They’re very quirky, sometimes funny as anything, otherwise a tad unsettling but always interesting and exceedingly well performed.
They’re best seen in a smallish venue so you can get up close and personal. Again, seeing them live is fabulous.

I’ll second everything Paul said about the Bobs. If you get the chance to see them, do it!
