Hi, if a 19th century flute has the maker’s name but no serial number, what does that mean? When people talk about their Rudall and Roses and Pratten’s, they often mention a number… What if the flute only has the maker’s name, but no number? Penny(-whistle) for your thoughts.
Many times the maker would not number his flutes. I have a Rudall Rose and Carte with no number. I think it was Monzani that first started putting serial numbers on his flutes. What is the maker of your flute? Why don’t ya post a photo when you get it together.
Hey, thanks a lot for your replies. God, what great photos! How many of those flutes do you have?! They look gorgeous.
I have Thomas Prowse and would be happy to give a photo. Silly question perhaps: I’m new to this website: how do I upload a photo with my next message?
