Xaphoon again--anyone with experience of a D?

I understood the original Xaphoon/Maui bamboo sax can be made in custom keys beside standard Bb and C.
Did anyone try one out in D or A?

Not yet - still trying to get to grips with a C bamboo. Cheapest place to buy was here in the UK.

I haven’t tried the Xaphoon in any of its keys yet.
I’m developing a similar instrument (for my own use) in the keys of G, F#, and possibly D. All three keys are below the Xaphoon/Pocket Sax key of C.
My instrument (code name: “Saxuhachi”) will be pentatonic however. :boggle: :really:

Keep us posted on the Saxahachi! Pentatonic instruments are a lot of fun-- no matter what “tune” you play, it sounds good. Very peaceful, meditative scale

Question here:
If you tape the F# shut, forget the C/C#, do you get a (major) pentatonic instrument?

I got my C through www.saxophones.co.uk which is quite a bit cheaper than through the US. They sell them out of Germany too if you can figure the site - me no speak German and my 13yo daughter doesn’t speak enough yet to be of use! Excellent service.
