I’m looking for someone who’s willing to sell me an antique low Bb/alto flute. It should be a tapered bore flute, and not a band flute if possible, but I’ll look into that as well…just let me know what you’ve got. Maybe an earlier Hawkes?
I mainly need the flute for studying and measuring it, so it can be unrestored or otherwise in bad condition. Or if anyone has one and would borrow it to me for a few weeks, I’d be happy about that as well - I’m fine with providing a deposit for it of course.
I have a few of these, i don’t understand what you mean about it being a band flute any flute can be a band flute. I take it you mean that you want a 4 piece one with tuning slide like a conventional semi- Scottish Rudall Rose except larger.
but if that’s not what you are after you can try Pastor Mullan he has the largest flute collection in Ireland he has normal b flat flutes, b flat flutes with c foot, Boehm system b Flat flutes http://fifeanddrummuseum.org/bassflutes.aspx
he has only listed a few of his collection but hear is a photo with a few of his flutes http://fifeanddrummuseum.org/aboutus.aspx
I think you can just see his Rudall Rose to the left hand side.
they’re what I call “band flutes” - however such a conical contraption might suffice, especially for that price. I actually just need a working bore profile for turning a set of reamers, the holes have to be redistributed anyway as my fingers are way to short for the giant flutes. I probably will have to add siccama style keys.
Please let me know when your friend decides to sell his flute!
Thanks as well for the Pastor Mullan collection, I’ll be in Sligo this summer and Enniskillen isn’t too far away, so it might be worth a visit.
You must have the same small hand syndrom that i have, why not build an all covered flute to eliminate the span? These are what i use to help with ease of playing
