This is what I, and some other Chiffers, have in store for tomorrow through Thursday morning. Blizzard conditions, along with almost 2 feet of snow. The amount of snow isn’t bad for me (although I’m not fond of 2 feet at a time), but for those near the lakes, I know it’s very unwelcome.
We got a smattering today and are expecting freezing rain overnight. Sufficient to convince my 16 year old that she could sleep over at a friends with the odds favoring their not having to get up at 6 am to get ready for school. Is she right? Time will tell.
Sure, snow can be a pain (I’ll be shoveling for hours tomorrow along with everyone else), especially if you have to travel or commute, but man, I’d have a hard time living anywhere where it didn’t snow in winter.
Thank goodness! Here I was getting all set to shovel a mound of snow, and then Izz’s map showed me that the snow line will conveniently stop at the border. What a wonderfully considerate snowstorm! What a greatly accurate map!
All of which explains my relocation 14 years ago from the Berkshire mountains of Massachusetts to the pine-covered Piedmont of North Carolina. Good luck and best wishes!!!
We’re getting an ice storm here in Cincinnati. This just came down about 10 minutes ago. Fortunately I wasn’t taking the dog out. I’m also glad it didn’t hit the house.
I’m in Clifton, I live right near the university (I work there). We lost power this afternoon for about 10 minutes and the power has flickered a few times this evening.
I get to walk in to work in about two and a half hours too.
Edit: My folks live in Cheviot - so far it hasn’t been too bad over there. They’ve not lost power or anything.
We’ve been waiting for the hammer to fall here in B’ton, and I decided not to trek out to Ithaca for the session because of this.
So far there’s only a tiny speck of a glimmer of a smattering of maybe snow. We’re projected to see about a foot and a half, eventually, but apparently not yet.
I think the snow is going to wait for me to fall asleep and then drop all at once.
Anyone who lives in New York State on the east side of Lake Ontario has no room to ever complain about snow.
It’s the world capitol of “lake effect”. Heck I thought WE got it bad.
We were under a storm watch last night and were told it would come down this morning. Instead, this morning we were no longer under a watch, and it didn’t snow all day. Now its coming down, but its very small flakes due to the plunging temperature. There’s not much accumulation, but the wind is picking it up and making things look worse than they are. My hope now is that it will all blow over through the night and I’ll only have a few inches to shovel tomorrow morning. Then again …
I thought of several of you northerners when I heard the forcast this evening. I’m hoping we don’t get much down here.
And maybe our spring is just around the bend. I saw two polecats(skunks) tonight as I was driving home from band practice. If their stirrin’ then maybe, just maybe…
If any of youse guys get tired of shoveling snow, we could use some more ITM players around here:

Northeast Ohio got clobbered with snow last night. I was ready to go to work and found my car buried up to the windshield with a solid three feet of snow in the driveway behind the car. I was able to get in the car and start it but I was just spinning my wheels. The snow plows cleared the street but, as they often do, they pushed the snow from the street into the driveways, leaving about 4.5 feet of snow at the driveway entrance. This was not as much snow as Oswego got but enough to get me a snow day off work. Maybe even two snow days if I can’t get someone to shovel or plow the driveway. I am shovel-impaired.
Stay warm!
Mike
Well, I am somewhat disappointed. We supposedly got 10 cm last night, but the wind has pushed it around so much that some places look like they got no snow at all. Oh, darn.
That is all the system snow we are supposed to receive, but the back side of the low is now causing the winds to turn around, so we may be getting set up for significant squalls over the next day or so. Those familiar with streamers off the lakes know what I mean.
I guess I’ll just have to put the shovels away for another year (sigh).
We’ve had 8 inches as of 7 this morning, with maybe another foot on the way.
I tried to clear the snow at midnight to save some work later, but it was still a heavy undertaking. I started at 6am, took a 15 minute break at 7:30 (really, this was to stall until my nextdoor neighbor woke up—it’s his driveway too!) and we cleared the driveway just in time for the downstairs neighbor to hurry to work to get a good parking space, which he will surely find because classes were canceled.
But get this: my father back in IL says that when they had their recent heavy snow the public schools stayed open but the busses shut down, and students were told to just go to the public school nearest to them. To…sit around, I guess.
We got about 4-5 inches yesterday, just enough to be beautiful. It was hard shoveling though, maybe the drifting kind of packed it down, and I don’t envy those with a lot more to shovel. Or those with ice. It’s pretty cold again, but all in all, we’re making out really well here.
I just came in from shoveling snow. We had about a foot of new snow. Yesterday we had snow with periods of sleet and freezing rain throughout the day, and last night we had strong winds to swirl the snow into drifts. My snow blower doesn’t push through snow and ice very well. One good thing is that I get to spend the whole day with my Valentine.
