Regarding Willie Rowsome chanters I asked Mick O’Brien yesterday (Sunday) at the Tönder festival in Denmark what exactly does he play as regards concert pitch sets. I worked out that he would be the man to ask, that he if anyone would know the true story. Well check this out, Mick’s set’s are by Alain Fromont, both the Bb and the D. So I asked him but doesn’t he use the Willie Rowsome chanter with an Alain Fromont wind cap. Mick replied “No, the D chanter is also by Fromont”. So it’s only fair play that Alain gets his due. Mick went on to say that he still has the Willie chanter at home, but his D set is 100% Fromont. I e-mailed Pat Sky and Pat said he sold his Willie Rowsome set some years back. At the Sunday afternoon concert all three sets being played by Mick Mick & Cillian, that is, Fromont, O’Briain & Fromont sounded just fine.
Correction - Pat Sky sold his Willie Rowsome set 10 years ago, but recently got the back. He is using a Dave Quinn chanter instead of the Willie Rowsome chanter which was/is sharp. Mick O’Brien has his W. Rowsome chanter att home and uses an Alain Fromont D chanter with his Fromont set.
