What I found curious was the statement on the Ebay site in the descripition:
“synonymous with Clannad, Enya and other Irish traditional musicians”
I wasn’t aware that Clannad or Enya had pipers in their CDs - some in the background, perhaps, but not that they’re known for piping.
And you think it might be Finbar Furey? I’d have thought he would have had his name attached to the production, somehow - and just 13 tracks, all single tunes - that’s a bit different, too.
Ah, well, it was the curiousity that posed the question - thanks for the research!
Stay tuned,
Brian
ronan browne was on a similar record aimed at the tourist market called ‘celtic moods’ - it’s a bit tough going listening to so many slow tunes (some of which I don’t think are in the same tradition as the slow airs on The Wynd You know) but the playing is flawless - you can get it cheap at woolworths here in the Uk
These are some great to satify the need for slow …does anyone know other cds containing the Dark Island??? or were this cd can be purchased?
A good place to look up whuch tunes are on what recording is Thomas Johnson’s site at:

I just looked and of course “the dark island” isn’t listed… ![]()
EDIT: knock yourself out.. ![]()

Ronan Le Bars is an excellent uilleann piper from Brittany. He recorded a solo project with Nicolas Quemener (formerly of KORNOG) called “Bimis ag Ol” that’s pretty nice.
here’s a blurb on it
http://www.loz-production.com/ronan_lebars/index.htm
He did put “The Dark Island” on it. He also includes a few unusual tunes (for pipers); his technique is formidable.
For Brendan Ring if you should read this: Do you know this guy? His reeds seem to be phenomenally good and I just wondered if you had anything to do with it. ![]()
I have to agree there..
Ronan Le Bars is an awesome piper.
Thanks for the hint to a cd, i only heard a few tunes from him sofar.
Thanks Pat,
The little snippet has me drooling…I tried to purchase the cd from another site 18.95…kinda high but then I got the flat rate on shipping
28.00 wow
so I will continue the hunt…I am intrigued by the playing but thwarted on attempts to get a copy. ![]()
Ahw shucks… I forgot to bid the CD … anyone know where to get a copy of this on or the Ronan LeBars cd??? I cant pay $28 in shipping ![]()
Ronan Le Bars was in my workshop yesterday for emergency reed repairs before a recording. Ronan is indeed very good but unfortunately it’s all him and nothing to do with me!
Wow. ![]()
Let him know how difficult it is to get his cd in the US… ![]()
I also listened to the clip of Dark Island at loz-production, and it does sound very good. I tried to buy it but had to send an email for registering. So, I am waiting to hear from them. It did not seem to me to require that much money for shipping to US… but don’t know French.
Maybe D’Arcy can get some in his shop?
