Anyone get his new CD yet? It’s quite good, and I think (yeah, sure, like I know?) it definitely shows an obviously evolving musician, because to my ears the piping seems much stronger than on his earlier recordings.
Great piping! The duets with Koehler are real smooth and extremely interesting to listen to… something there should be more of really.
There’s even enough airs to satisfy my delicate soul!
There is one tune Brian plays that I’ve heard before, but can’t remember who else recorded it: Mrs Crotty’s. Perhaps it was under a different name?
Anyway, this is a must have recording, and can be ordered directly from Brian.
The hornpipes duet with Benedict is breathtaking, especially with the regulators touches at the end of “Mrs. Crotty’s”. The CD is worth the 20 euros for that track alone.
I had the CD knocking about since the Willie week without actually listening t oit. I listened to it yesterday. the weather being what it was there was little else. it’s well done but iby the sound of the first track i couldn’t help thinking i was listening to the ‘Brian Voyage’
I’ve definitely found Fort of the Jewels to be yet a different recording than the last. While I enjoy Leitrim’s Hidden Treasure, the actual recording isn’t that high-quality. I found that A Piper’s Dream had a much better recording process overall but found the fade-aways and nearly jump-starts to be annoying. I’m sure Brian did too, and that’s why it’s not like that on the Fort.
I will agree with someone else: the duets with Benedict are my favorite tracts. I’ve learned Mrs. Crotty’s and am trying to get some of their ornaments in, now. I believe the regulators on that track (number 7) are Benedict playing. As I listen to the CD (and to Benedict in person), I’ve learned to recognise the two different pipers’ regulator styles.
Pat D’Arcy would like you to help support his Uilleann Obsession site by purchasing through him from Amazon. A worthwhile cause! http://www.uilleannobsession.com
For stuff that is not available from Amazon, here are some other good places to go (not an exclusive list, by any means):
