Whistles in Ireland

My aunt is going to Dublin and some of the towns around it next month. I asked her if she could pick me up a fairly good whistle in a shop just as a trinket from Ireland. Is there anyone out there who knows of any good whistle shops, and whistles that she can look at? Don’t worry I’d pay her back, so I don’t mind any prices you give back to me. Well anyway its great to be a new member in the message board room. Thanx a lot. Don’t waiste too much time on me.

From what I know, if you’ve got a “lust” for Whoa, Dublin isnt the best place for that… The few shops I visited in Dublin a few weeks ago would only sell Generation whistles, and if you’re “lucky” you might end up in a shop selling Susato whistles… I had much better luck in County Clare though, over there you can get about anything, even a girlfriend!

Hehe, tell us more, Azalin.

Actually, isn’t there a Walton’s store or something in Dublin? I remember visiting a store which I believe was called that, which had a fair selection of high end whistles…

I say take a side trip to Adare.))

You see quite a few whistles in the Duty Free shops. Waltons whistles of all sorts feature, especially the Guiness black & white model. No a bad whistle actually.

I went to a couple of musical instrument shops in Dublin looking for Mandolins last year, and nothing grabbed me. I don’t think they go in for special whistles in a big way, so as above, you might get a Generation or Feadog.

Oddly, Hobgoblin in London have a far wider range of whistles in stock than anywhere else I know.

If you read the headlines of today ‘Clare Champion’ there’s a lot more you can get subsequently, but anyways, Custy’s has a few generations, doolin’s, feadogs, oaks, sweetones, susatos, Ds only and an incomplete range of those big chunky aluminium thingumiewhatsies (I was in there half an hour ago), the tradmus shop in Doolin is closed for winter but usually hasn’t anything more (I’d say they have less even)than Custy’s. Can get anything in Clare?? Where??

Uhh, is that crack a reference to Low Whistles Peter? Are we to take it you’re not a fan?

it was a whole set from high to low, I am never sure about their make, Kerry, Chieftain, hence the ‘thingumiewhatsies’. Even the high ones struck me as very chunky. And no, I am not a fan, for some reason they physically felt colder than the other whistles, they are too big and I didn’t fancy sticking the aluminium in my mouth. Not very rational I know.
