too loose le truck
Well, I don’t know how it happened, but I affectionately call my Mom’s car “The Rust-Bucket”… It’s an 81 Chevy Citation (X-11), and an excellent car… the Body looks pretty good, and would look even better if it had a new paint job… hence the name.. ![]()
And I’m thinking of naming my Nat. finish Clarke D and my Doolin… I was thinking Bob and George, or George and Bob, but I’m not sure. ![]()
I’ve never named any of my musical instruments, but now that you bring it up, I think I’ll name my feadog “Wallace the Whistle”.

Is it named after this Wallace?

Gary!!! AAHH!! I absolutely love your signature!!! How cool to find another Sherlockian! ![]()
No, I never thought of it that way, even though I’m a big Wallace and Gromit fan. My art teacher used to bring the tapes in to class on Fridays and we could watch them while we did our projects. I like the one with the sheep, they were so cute.

Why not name it after a man???
All depends on who you want to blow (Snerk!)
An-na Mar-tinez!!! ![]()
I’m one of those people who name just about everything, and my husband’s almost as bad. He recently acquired a Kawasaki “Vulcan” motorcycle, which he’s christened “T’Byke” (if you’re a Star Trek fan, you’ll probably get it
). My computer is “Igor,” my Mercury Sable is “Sebastian Sable” (Sebbie for short) and our old red Toyota Tercel is “Elmo.”
Of my whistles, I only tend to name the ones I play a lot. My O’Briain “improved” is “Lark,” my Meg is “Whisper” and my big-voiced Susato D is “Della.” My original Generation is simply “Genny.”
I think I will name my 3 Clarke’s… the whistles I play most often… just for the hell of it. ![]()
And for sheer lack of imagination at 9:20 pm Pacific Time, I think I’ll call them George (D black w/gold livery), Bob (D, nat. finish), and Fred (C black w/gold livery).
Unless some of you out there can come up with some better ideas??
I never gave names to any musical instruments, nor to my cars. But my motorbike’s name is Eugene.

I tend to give stuff looks big, sleek and intimidating the name “Intimidator”.
When my dixon low d arrives, I’ll (egoistically) name it “Caoimhin”, after me of course. Or maybe my real name which is another form of caoimhin. Muah ha. Ha.
I haven’t kept a name for a whistle, but my 1929 silver “Chu Berry” alto sax is named “Cyny” in honor of the second owner, my Grandmother. She played in an professional all-ladies Swing band durning the 1940’s. I hope to play some of her compositions on it (when my Aunts send them to me) as well as her brother’s composistions. My ultimat goal is to play with a Ceili band using the sax. I hope to get there in a decade or so.

Whoa… what a wonderful family heirloom to have, and what stories it could tell!
oh my gosh!!! You have a Chu Berry sax!!! Aaaahhhh! Wow! That is soooo cool!
Of the instruments I’ve played, the baritone sax has to be my very favorite. I loved the low notes and the way the instrument became an extension of me, how when I played it right, the sax and I functioned as one. I can’t afford to get one yet, but in my experiments to produce new instruments, I am going to try and come up with a way to build one, I love that instrument so much.

OK, I hereby name my O’Briain/Feadog, “Fiona, the wonder Feadog.”
My mom named her old green station wagon “The Tank”. The engine squeaked. I was very little (car seat time) and she used to tell me that there were birds living under the hood. ![]()

Only my Overton low d has a nickname. For those of you who read the dictionary as a past time, it is “The Fustigator”.

I’ve never understood why anyone would want to name any inanimate object like a whistle, a car, or a computer.
How else are you going to get them in at teatime?
I once had a fiddle called Orpheus, but I didn’t name it, it was written on a label inside.
I call my Sweetone the sweet one, and the others are called Clarke, Guinness, C, and Mellow D, and I have a plastic skull model that I call Scully. Yes, we’re very clever with names here. My 4 year old’s favorite loveys are called Tiny Baby, Big Baby, and New Bear. And even though her Kelly doll collection contains dolls of other names, she calls them all Kelly. So the gene has been passed on.
