Just wondering what size of a whistle/flute collection most folk have???

Iāve got 9 whistles, 3 flutes (hopefully that will become a larger number
), 4 recorders, and 3 ocarinas. My parents think that that is too many instruments, but I beg to differ. ![]()

Iāve got around 30-35 whistles, 4 flutes, a couple of re****ers tossed away in a corner somewhere and some other stuff here and there.
I have 8 whistlesā¦2 Waltons, 2 Generations, 2 Clares, 1 Clarke, and 1 Kerry Songbird ![]()
See other responses in this similar thread:
I have the following Low Whistle Keys:
Chieftains/Kerry: 12 (D,Eb, F, G)
Overton: 1 ( D)
Howard: 1 ( D)
Silktone 1 ( D)
Burke 1 ( A)
The following are sopranos:
Chieftain: 3 ( Bb, A, D)
Dixon 1( D)
Walton LBW 1 (D)
OāBrien 1(C)
Like others on here I have several others, but these are the one which get the majority of playing time.
Iām down to 22 whistles (from a high of 24), but I now have 3 flutes. ![]()
About 50 whistles, 6 flutes, a tenor recorder and several flutes that arenāt either Boehm or simple system like quena and Native American flute.
Since I play whistle in non-Irish contexts I have quite few in keys that session-focussed musicians wouldnāt need and since I record with them I have different whistles and flutes to do different jobs.
Around about 50 whistles,Five Flutes,a Piccolo,Thirteen Recorders,*
a couple of Chinese Bamboo Trad Flutes,Bass Clarinet and Alto sax.
Oh,and a Uilleann Pipes Practice set.
As thirteen is traditionally an unlucky number, maybe I should buy another.
NO- I will NOT burn them!!! (Just trying to keep once step ahead of the anti-Rc%rd*r brigade there!!
)
4 whistles, 2 flutes - but only one whistle and the flutes get serious playing time.
Eric
which whistle?
I have not counted recently, but I probably have over 80.
Only 6 flutes though.
I used to have a picture, but I donāt know where it is at this time.

Do people have favorite whistles in their collection? ![]()
My one whistle that gets significant playing time is my Cillian OāBrian high D. Great whistle with a very traditional sound and the sweetest second octave Iāve come across yet.
Eric
2 flutes, 2 fifes, a practice chanter, and more than 80 whistles. The Burkes get played daily and the Copelands, OāRiordans, Abells and Sindts come out to play once a week or so.
Philo
Abells: low G, A, Bb, C, D, Eb, F, high G; boxwood D (thanks, Jessie!); pink ivorywood D w/ low Cn pinky hole, LH Bb thumbhole and RH Fn thumbhole.
Skip Healy piccolo (in the wings)
And just thought Iād throw in: Casey Burns low A flute in mopane and Terry McGee Prattens keyless flute in blackwood.
I really enjoy playing my Clare Dā¦its my first and favorite whistle to play (it has a special pwace in my heart!) ![]()
I also like my Clarkeās sweet, clean tone though it is bit of a wind hog.
My Kerry Songbird is another neat whistle but I donāt think I am quite GOOD enough and deserving to play it. ![]()
Not sure⦠about 40 or 50 whistles: Feadogs, Gens, Clares, Doolins and Waltons all with various tweakage; also Clarke originals and Sweetones, A Dixon aluminium/plastic with brass slide, A Dixon all plastic, some Susatos, a Jerry Freeman MellowDog, and an old all-metal cylindrical Generation which comes somewhere between F and F#. Itās brass with a very worn nickel-looking plating and plays nicely. The badge dropped of a year ago and I lost it, but it definitely said Generation.
I currently have 7 whistles (all in high D).

I have 14 whistles. From high to low: 1 E, 8 D, 2 C, 1 B-flat, 1 A, and 1 G. Iām sure Iāll acquire more within this range, but I think thatās as high and as low as I want to go.
I also have a cheap plastic recorder that I havenāt learned to play yet, and a ceramic ocarina in the shape of a dove. I think I want to collect more ocarinas. Theyāre cool.
I havenāt caught the āflute bugā yet.
