Crud, I’ve got a tune I need to find the notes for, but I’m not sure of the name. Someone said they thought it was “Grogans” but tunedb turns up nothing searching by that name. Since I haven’t learned the tune yet, I can’t even give part of the tune as a reference, all I know is that it’s a jig and I was told it’s in Eminor. Ring any bells?

James, thanks, but no joy: I had a look at the ABC and it doesn’t appear to be the tune I’m looking for.
Monkey, I do have one of Catherine’s CD’s, however in all honesty, after listening to it again last night, I probably won’t listen to it again for another couple of years. She’s obviously a marvellous player, and I hear a wonderful player as well. However, the piano on that recording is so grating to my ear and nerves, that I simply can’t stand it to listen to more than a few tunes. I realize it’s likely just me, and I’m not slagging off the CD one bit, it’s just that I can’t hack listening to that sort of piano playing.
Okay, back to the tune in question: At this point I’m guessing the name of the tune isn’t Grogan’s. I do have a bit of the tune worked out, perhaps this will help, it’s a repetitive ending phrase throughout the tune, I believe it goes like this:

Hoookay… After doing numerous fragment searches on tunedb, I finally came up with a slightly different version of the tune I’m looking for, it’s called “Molloy’s” here on tunedb : http://tunedb.woodenflute.com/tunedb/tune_details_results.html?tune_id=12889&tune_name=Molloy’s
After having a look/listen, does anyone know this by a different name? I’m still trying to find a version with a second part that’s closer to what I’m looking for.

Mmmm, no I don’t think so, but thanks Kevin. The person who gave me the name of the tune said “I think the name of the tune is Grogan’s” so I’m guessing that’s not it after all.
The one I linked to on tunedb, titled “molloy’s” definately has the right A part I’m looking for, and the B part is clearly a variation on the B part I’m looking for. I still need to look over the alternates on Norbeck a bit I guess. No sound files there, eh?

Well, it’s not the version I’m looking for. It’s amazing how many similar, but different tunes you get when you try doing fragment searches on Tunedb and the like.

I have this tune. It is Tony Molloy’s setting of Contentment is Wealth. Tony Molloy played flute for Co. Galway’s Leitrim C.B. [Loughrea] which included Joe Burke - this around 1955. I found a recording of this one on the Martin Mulhaire-Jack Coen-Seamus Connolly album Warming Up. Another name for it is “Paddy Carty’s”.
