What keyed flute on Mike McGoldricks track 7 on FUSED

So what key is the flute M. McGoldrick used on Terry Teehans/Her long black hair, track 7 on the Fused album? Anyone know..
Absolutely fantastic playing and tone.

Thanks, Ketil

Bb flute.

Thanks! Next question.. Where to get a one of those?
I am on a tight budget, but would be interested in a Bb flute if anyone knows of a good one!

ImNotIrish has a combo Bb and A Burns for sale just a few messages down from here…

Best wishes.

Steve

Also … Doug Tipple?

Thanks. The Burns is probably a bit pricey just for now.. Tipple is an option. What about Dixon? Any good?

Specifically, I think Mike is using a Bflat flute by Gilles Lehart.

And I think he is still using it, he played a Lehart last week in Lorient.
I have a Bflat Lehart for one month now and it’s a very good flute, tone and tuning are excellent.

Which of his flutes are Grinters, then??

I believe he recorded Fused before he got the Grinters. I think he played D, F, and Bb Leharts.
The story I heard was he got the Grinters to fit in better with the Lunasa sound. And initially preferred his old keyless Lehart until some design changes were made by Grinter. I cant vouch for all that though. Just the way I heard it told.

According to the Fused liner notes he plays Lehart flutes on that album. Looks like he switched to Grinters sometime before the At First Light album with John McSherry came out (Fused came out in 2000 this one in 2002) as Mike Grinter gets a thank you in the notes for that album but no mention of Lehart.

I heard the same story about McG requesting a new model from Grinter. I believe I tried one the newer models. Seemed fatter than Grinter’s older models which I’ve tried.

just wanted to say, i LOVE that track tooo! can’t believe i didn’t notice the key, never tried playing along with it, although i know the tunes by heart

I did try to play along the track, and even though I’ve got keys on my M&E it was a bit to much for me:-) The whole album is amazing, but this track stands out!
