What are YOU listening to?

A friend loaned me a CD of traditional Bulgarian dance music. It’s actually extremely cool.

THat and Opeth (Viking metal) \M/  \M/

On the computer, right this minute, Solas’ first album, working on “Crested Hens” and their version of “Sliabh Geal gCua Na Féile”, in between bursts of coding. I haven’t yet gotten to the point of listening to Irish music simply for enjoyment.

In the car, I mostly listen to Tex-Mex radio. It’s great that there’s even more Tex-Mex (conjunto) music available in Texas than there was in Califonia. Go figger!

I do keep CDs from Muddy Waters, Blind Lemon Jefferson, John Lee Hooker, and Leadbelly in the car, though. Also “Mountain Soul”, from Patty Loveless. It all depends on my mood.

Having discovered that my DVD player will play CDs, I now keep The Modern Jazz Quartet’s “No Sun in Venice” album in my bedroom. It’s one of the few things that I can play while I’m reading. (Maybe that’s not a compliment. I love it, but it doesn’t constantly demand my full attention like most kinds of music.)

Looks like I’m a bit light on the classical side. Wonder where I can get some Wanda Landowska…

Old Blind Dogs (Fit? and The Gab O May), Seamus Ennis (40 years of piping), Lunasa (The Kinnitty Sessions, Redwood, and The Merry Sisters of Fate), and Danu (All Things Considered)

Those are a few things I have listened to in the past few days.

The voices in my head.

Funny; I almost never listen to music when I’m on the computer. It just doesn’t occur to me.

Currently loaded in the car: Fleetwood Mac–The Dance
Currently loaded in the kitchen: Madeleine Peyroux

Chulrua

Colm O’Donnell

Sean McAloon and John Rea: pipes and hammer dulcimer.

In the car: Dervish’s “Spirit” which I’m trying to like, but it’s not working well for me.

Today’s playlists

Tricky: “Maxinquaye”
The Blue Nile: “High”
Joanie Madden (mix)

Ummm…today has mostly been taken up by Evanescence and Green Day…not by my choice, however :stuck_out_tongue: I seem to have acquired a couple of teenagers that have taken over my cd player.

I’ve also been listening to “Spirit,” and generally like it. I enjoy the last cut (Whelans). Sounds to me like The Grateful Dead playing IrTrad.

Also, just got Flook’s Rubai today. I’ve only had a chance to listen to it once, but liked it. Jazzier than I expected (which is neither good nor bad).

Also, Neil Young’s “Greendale,” which I consider to be an incredibly overlooked masterpiece.

Myself, I’ve been listening to The Chieftans “The Wide World Over.” One of my favorite Celtic CD’s. I’ve also been listening to Final Fantasy: Celtic Moon…I never thought I’d hear a nice Celitc arrangment of Chocobo music  . Finally I listened a bit to the Blade II soundtrack. Yup, I’ve got a pretty varied taste.

Besides being on 2 of the 3 Deanta CDs, you do know that Deirdre is now in the London Lasses (2nd CD)?

“The Ultimate Otis Reading”

Patrick Street- absoultely great- I never tire of the stuff.

-Le Vent du Nord, “Maudite Moisson!”

Johnny Clegg and Savuka: “Heat, Dust and Dreams”. An excellent blend of traditional Zulu and comtemporary folk rock, that has just a hint of Irish folk in it. Magic!

Star Wars: The Musical

Karan Casey, “Distant Shore”, John Skelton & Kieran O’Hare, “Double-barrelled”, and Toumani Diabate & Ballake Sissoko, “New Ancient Strings” - Malian kora music. Great stuff. I may branch out into the Monks of the Screw (nothing like it sounds :stuck_out_tongue:) later. Or maybe La Bottine Souriante…
I have assignments due. I’ve listened to more today than in the last 2 weeks!

“Tracin” by GEAROID O’HALLMHURAIN

Gearoid gave a house concert here in Windsor Ontario yesterday and I have always liked his music and wee lecture about the history or Irish music in Ireland and later in the world.
