Sounds about right.

Especially if the outside surface is wood, you don’t want the joint to be too tight, so wax can be a disadvantage.

What is everyones favorite supplier of thread?? Ted Anderson had a large ball of romanian hemp at the So Cal Tionol. I’ve subsequently found a source for the stuff on line. I’ve got a roll of that yellow stuff that GHB uses, but find it too coarse at times, so I’ve resorted to unrolling some string for my needs. I’ve used the thread that comes in my sew up bicycle tire repair kit for stuff as well.

You can get large balls of the stuff they use for making doilies pretty cheap. Hemp string is not sold in most of NAmerica, so many European references are difficult to follow.

Fel,

The yellow GHB hemp is indeed too coarse for most UP applications. I’ve been using ordinary cotton thread with good results. The finer thread gives you much better control over the thickness of the wrapping. If you’re travelling between climates, it’s nice to have a couple of different colors of thread, so you can tell what’s been added.

You can also used waxed or unwaxed dental floss. This stuff is pretty strong, too.

That’s because it’s made of drugs right? :moreevil:

I have many pet peeeeeeeves… and I’m getting to know them better with every passing day
