Visiting Ireland in February

My wife and I are coming to Ireland February 19 through March 2.

I’ve perused the web and found:

  • the Micho Russell Festival Feb. 22 - Feb. 24 in Doolin
Corofin Trad some time in late February
“At the Racket” concert Feb. 28 at Corofin Trad

If anyone knows anything else going on during our visit, I’d greatly appreciate knowing about it, or if there’s a good session I might sit in on…

We’ll be staying with my wife’s brother and parents in Murroe, County Limerick. We’re flying into London Feb. 17 to visit a friend, then either flying into Dublin or Shannon Feb. 19. If Dublin, we’d be renting a car and driving southerly. We might visit a friend in Roscommon at some time. We plan to visit a potter (Louis Mulcahey) in Dingle at some point. And there’s a possibility of visiting my wife’s cousin in Cork city.

Does anyone know a potter they’d recommend visiting?

Isn’t Spring in February in Ireland?

Thanks,

Michael

Sorry we won’t be here- we’ll be in the US until the end of March.
If you can book at Cullinan’s B&B in Doolin you’ll be in the heart of it. He’s a world class fiddler (Happy to Meet) and there’s a good chance you’ll hear some great unscheduled music and find out where to go to hear it outside the B&B.

Hi Michael,
you asked,

Isn’t Spring in February in Ireland?

You wish!!! Even through to the end of March it can be bitterly cold, it doesn’t become bearable temperature wise until about April at the earliest.
Rug up. Expect lots of ‘liquid sunshine’ as we say in Belfast.
You are heading South, and I could only point you to sessions in the North.
Ah well, you’ll enjoy your time there regardless.

Sure you will be in one of the best places in Ireland for both music
and pots. Loui Mulcahy has a really great place in a really great place

  • beautiful rugged coast - some of the best scenery Ireland has to
offer and the place a lot of film was shot for Ryans Daughter. Loui has
proved to be both a great potter and a great financial asset to the Dingle
area - providing employment to a sizeable crew.

John benny’s pub on Wednesdays and other venues in Dingle town
are sure to have some music going on. Just ask around in Dingle.
You will probably be aiming to stay in Dingle?, as Loui Mulcahy’s
place is 20 minutes the far side of Dingle and Dingle is 30 minutes
from Tralee, which is nearly 2 hours from Limerick.

You got good advice on the weather. Plan for bitter cold and wet weather
around 2 to 9 degrees C, with frequent wind and rain.

Where are you coming to in the U.S. Cocusflute?

…bitter cold and wet weather

Would they allow a small package of sunshine as carry-on? We’ve had some real nice days here in North Carolina.
