trip to Ireland for Patricks night

:boggle: Hi I am planning a trip from UK to Ireland in March to take in Patricks night. Will be flying into Shannon and taking a car up the West Coast can anyone recommend B&B or other accommodation. Anyone have any experience of cool places to check out some music on the way? Will of course be taking my flutes on hol with me so looking for some open sessions.

Patrick´s day is not a good day to listen music in the pubs, too noisy, too many people, too artificial atmosphere in some pubs. Go any other day and you will enjoy much more, music is everywhere in Ireland, you can fly there any weekend to shannon and then go to Ennis, Galway or any other town to enjoy the music.
I´ve been living in Galway and I can say there is good music, good stuff in a lot of pubs, that´s my choice and my suggest for you.
Enjoy!

Ditto. If it’s “traditional” music you’re after, best go another time. If it’s guitars and other jangly things you’re after, you might be in luck. But there are tons of pleasant B&B’s up & down the coast and some lovely places in Galway and its surrounds – I was never disappointed with the Board Failte setup; if that’s still around, that’s a great and simple way to go.

If you’re on the west coast, go to Crosbie’s shop in Ennistymon, Co. Clare. Robert, one of the owners, is a box player. On St. Patrick’s day there is always a lovely local session in one of the small pubs. Plus a parade!*
Robert will tell you where the session de jour is - and probably be able to recommend a decent B&B.

*The parade is not in the pub.

Thanks, I guessed Irleand might get a bit crazy around Patricks night,
thank for the warnings. I am sure we will find some great music with a bit of research.
