UK sessions etc...

Hi
Rather new to Chiff and Fipple and to the whole whistling thing really. I live in the midlands and would like to get involved in playing with other people - sessions, practices or even just listen along to some good players!
Any recommendations please?

Naomi

This very weekend there is a Chiff and Fipple gathering in Manchester:

There are a handful chiffers living in various parts of the UK. I’m in London but have only found one regular session and haven’t managed to attend it yet. First Monday of the month somewhere near London Bridge, as I understand it…

Thanks Avanutria.

Darn - I have booked to go snowboarding this weekend. Should’ve read that one sooner. Hopefully if it is a success there may be another gathering in the new year. I would certainly make the trek to manchester for one.

Enjoy snowboarding! If you ever find yourself in the London area, give a shout, there are a couple of us here who always welcome a chance for some tunes or for an excuse to visit Hobgoblin Music downtown. They let you try all the whistles.

Which end of the Midlands are you, and I’ll try and come up with something? I only have detailed listings for Shropshire/Telford etc and the Welsh Marches to hand.

I am in Loughborough, 5 mins from the M1 junct 21.

Hi Naomi,

There’s a lively session at The George (Hotel) in Buxton, I think it’s on a Monday evening. Is that within your reach?

M

I don’t know much about the British geography, but I know Scotland is in the UK (maybe?) and in Glasgow there is an awesome session at a pub called Wintergill’s at Great Western Road, it’s very open and welcoming, great folks and great music.

your right, you dont know mutch about the geography of the uk!

If you were willing to travle to northumberland you could come to my local session place.

it is in a town called Hexham in a place called Sammy Joannas in The Royal Hotel that is on the main street. first wednesday of every month. 8 onwards. usually lively. I allways go, so if you can Ill see some C&Fers.

PS. I will probably be playing bohdran

Don’t blame me, until recently I had never been to anywhere in the UK apart from Gatwick and Heathrow airports in London. I’ve sort of focused on other countries, like Ireland and Italy.

That session sounds nice though!

Try contacting these people, and go along. If the session is not to your liking/level/whatever ask those present who fit your idea of a session where else they go and take it from there
