Uilleann Pipes from Pakistan Ebay -Stanley Pearlman stanp368

Just wanted to warn people about buying Uilleann Pipes or bagpipes from ebay. Be very careful what you buy and ask questions. I love ebay to no end but I fell into the same trap by an ebay seller called stanp368 aka Stanley Pearlman from Phila, PA. Read the add below as written below.

This seller tries to deny that he is a distributor and knows nothing of them. The listing had a sweet old lady holding them. But when I got the pipes home they just about fell apart in my hands. When I went back and forth with the Stanley via email and phone calls make no mistake he was an expert in these pipes and is a distributor. Just search his name on ebay there have been other victims his feedback is unreal.

Thank god for this site posting an article on how to fix them.

Just wondering if you guys think the way the listing is below is fraudlent misrepresentation… Please don’t call me stupid I am already Embarrased as it is.

Uilleann Irish Style Union bagpipes about which I know nothing except what someone told me as follows:–This instrument is called a “Half Set” having a rosewood stock w/ a drone damping lever, (3) blackwood drones, (1) blackwood chanter, imitation ivory fittings & arm operated bellows which forces air into the leather bag. Origin, maker unknown. Outward appearance indicates extra fine quality but I am neither qualified or experienced to guarantee anything about this complex looking instrument. No case. Drone reeds & chanter reed are included. Uilleann bagpipes have a more mellow sound than highland bagpipes. Replacement cost about $3000.00. I accept check or money order ONLY. Must be in U.S. DOLLARS. I DO NOT accept “paypal”, Euros, bank transfer or any non - U.S. currency. Buyer pays $39. for packing, handling, shipping & ins for U.S. delivery. Canada, APO, FPO & others higher.[img]

Don’t bother trying to fix them - they’ll never work right, and they’ll just frustrate any urges you have to learn to play. Just try to consider it a learning experience.

I wouldn’t endorse the article on “reworking” them - it was posted to illustrate some of the concrete issues with those eBay sets - and was written by someone without prior experience with uilleann pipes..

Arghh! not the sweet little old lady… just when you thought it was safe to visit the forum a again.
Was she perhaps posing with them in a very un-uilleann pipe pose?
Have a look at some previous posts, she’s shown up on here ad-nausium.
I can’t comment on American law, but his description seems couched in enough vagaries to get him out of any misrepresentation charge.
If these are in fact Pakistan made pipes, you have little to no hope of making a musical instrument from them.
I would think using the bag/bellows and woodwork with a chanter from a proper pipe maker as a practice set may be a way forward.

Djimbo.

Ya here is the pic.. its item 190152749016 on ebay or you can read all about in on ebay reviews and guides… It seems like you guys have heard it all anyway.
