On eBAY: 'uilleann' bagpipe !?

I like this part:

“A NEW APPROACH TO FOLK TREND”

That Tygon tubing looks like it’s got a crink in it to me.

Brought a similar chanter some years back - it is a Brien Boru chanter. Sort of highland chanter with keys to increase range but fingering is all screwed up and didn’t play in tune

This looks like a practice chanter version dressed up as a small pipe judging by the size of the pipes against the bellows

Anyone come across these before and do they play ?

I don’t think these are uilleann pipes.

NOT uilleann and found a description here for the chanter

explains why I could never get the wretched chanter I brought from Hobgoblin to play in tune - I thought the back hole was the top ‘a’ but it’s not. Top ‘a’ is on the front and covered with a key - definitely weird

If you buy 'em there is a tutor book for the full size pipes but the practice chanter would be the same fingering

Whoa, that’s a long connector pipe between the bellows and bag.

Looks to me like Northumbrian small pipes. Although the chanter looks to be shy about 10 keys.

Definitely not. NSP don’t have to have keys, and that’s no NSP.

Neither is this, despite the description…

Kind of reminds me of a set I saw here about a year ago where a fella showed up at a local session claiming to have a ABW practice set. After close examination of the wood and a few receipts for a few “Sharpie’s” it turned out to be cocuswood - the stuff they use to make some kites with.

Also, they look like Pakastani made pipes.

I believe that they are.

They are also here re-invented as a mouth blown set so the question is under what guise will they appear next.

Item location of Sialkot, Pakistan says it all but at 1 euro ($1.20) it is probably worth getting as a collectors item and they might even work

These are Scottish small pipes. What is the shipping on those things? Are they doing the “Buy them for $1.00 and ship them for $600.00” thing?

The Seller blocks the bidder’s ID to keep everyone in the dark.

They are NOT Scottish Small Pipes. Fingering is nothing like the Scottish small pipes and scale runs from ‘Low A’ (bottom hand Ring finger) to ‘top a’ (key on the front) and this leaves the low hand pinky free to operate the low hand keywork which extends the range of available notes down to ‘E’.

I know from the bitter experience of buying a full size chanter and trying to play it in the normal way

Is there a way of e-mailing E-Bay to notify them of mis-selling ? All I can find on their site is a sort of automated system which does not have the applicable phrases available.

John

So, you’ve played the chanter on the set pictured above and offered on Ebay?

This article might be of some interest http://www.ipba.ie/starck.html

Does anyone know of a reputable maker of Brian Boru’s Pipes?

Matt

Not much point now. The auction is over and the item didn’t sell. If it gets relisted, and if you feel like it, you could email the seller through his eBay account and notify him that the instrument is not uilleann pipes but, as you say, Brian Boru pipes.

No not the actual one on Ebay but one where the keywork was the same an Irish style Brien Boru warpipe chanter. Try comparing the posted diagram with the E-bay photo and you will see they are one and the same.

They are now back and correctly named so it looks like someone has been in touch with the vendor or E-bay

No, not since Stark passed on. You could have someone like Goodacre reinvent one for you. Actually there is a band that plays Brian Boru pipes. I guess they have to get them from somewhere.
