Anyone ever try an uilleann chanter with Northumbrian smallpipe drones?

If you mean you wonder what it would sound like, then something like this -

so you can still hear the smallpipe drones over all the racket there.

If you want to play an uilleann chanter in a northumbrian bag, bellows and use the drones, then i’ve tried that but it wasn’t that great really. First off the uilleann chanter tended to take more air than the northumbrian one, and even after mucking around with the drone reeds to solve that problem, they tended to shut off when you went for the octave. Shame really because i thought the GDg drones could sound nice on some G tunes.

I have a G/A drone on my set. It’s pitched between the tenor and baritone D. I usually close off the bass drone when I play the G/A drone. That gives a sound (DDG or DDA) which is not unlike the drones of small pipes. The pressure and volume of the drones match the chanter. The G drone adds a nice quality to tunes in G.
