tuning slide question on tuneable Cillian O'Briain low D

I bought a used O’Briain low D and it looks like some kind of tape is wound once around the lower portion of the whistle that fits into the mouthpiece. This “tape” has become loose and is twisting and bunching up when I try to put it together. Does anyone know what Cillian uses to create the seal on his tuneable whistles? Or something else that might work well? There is a groove cut into the tube where the tape is.

Thanks,

Michael

I suppose cork would work well, but whatever was used before me was not cork; it was more like some foamy rubber.

Sorry I don’t remember what Cillian used on his tunables-but I don’t see why some teflon plumber’s tape wouldn’t work either. You can wrap it in the groove pretty easy I imagine-and it’s always easy to remove it doesn’t work; cheap too!
