Tunable Overton Whistles

I absolutely love my Overton low whistles. These are probably my favorite low whistles. However, I’ve noticed a slight wiggle at the joint where the two pieces meet. Is this typical of the tunable Overtons? Does it need more tape wrapped around the inner piece? I’ve also noticed that when tuning, the top piece normally just falls back down.

Has anyone else experienced these things?

Overton tuning joints use teflon plumbers tape to keep metal from rubbing against metal, and to ensure a good airtight seal.
It’s normal for the tuning joint to loosen up a bit with use, but it’s very easy to snug it back up by adding a bit more teflon tape.
Just be mindful not to force the tuning slide back in after adding new tape… it should slide in with only gentle pressure and a twisting motion applied.

Everything Gary has said applies to my low D Overton as well.

Glad to hear you like the whistles, what Gary said was right and the reason teflon tape is used as it is something anyone can easily find around the world. They do have different thicknesses and the one I like to use is 0.08mm. one roll costs about $2 and should last for many years as normally you would only make slight adjustments of the tuning slide.
From the sound of it putting one layer on will do the job and normally takes less than a minute.

If you have any problems doing it send me an email and I can call you to explain how to go about it.
