A very interesting interview. I searched the archives to find the thread where Onkel shared his D & Bb Aebi recordings. The thread is http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?t=15854&start=0, but the files are no longer available. If you read this Claus, could you post the sound files again as I really enjoyed them and I’m sure the rest of the members would love to hear them again.
I’ve actually just discovered the thread about Claus’ band “Steampacket” and visited their website, listened to the samples and ordered the CD! Even so, I’d still love to hear the Aebi recordings again!

The sound files were lost because we changed our provider and I forgot about those samples. Anyway, I managed to relocate them on my computer and put them back there. Here they are:
This is what they sounded like just after I got them. They have become much better since, I got used to them, they go much easier and smoother now. Maybe I’ll record some new tunes in a while. The flu prevents me from playing a decent tune these days, so I better let it be right now.

Hi Steampacket! (I’m slightly confused now…) Actually, that one on the Steampacket album is my older Pratten type flute made by Tom. I still play it from time to time. I like its warm tone in the lower octave, but the new Rudall type serves me better in most respects.

As a matter of interest has anyone compared a R&R model flute by Tom Aebi with an R&R model flute by Chris Wilkes as regards the shape of the mouth hole? I’m just wondering as Tom says that his R&R model flute is based on the measurements of Thierry Maye’s large holed R&R. Before I got a Wilkes someone? said that Tom Aebi’s flutes had simular characteristics to a Wilkes

I think they are different. You can see this in pictures. Tom’s is more oval and Chris’s is more round (though not totally round, obviously).
I own a Aebi R&R and one of my best friends in Ireland has a Wilkes R&R, so I compared them several times.
as Jessie said the Wilkes has a more round
(but still oval) emb hole.the Aebi emb is also slighty larger (but longitudinally has more or less the same dimensions of the Wilkes).
that said I’ve seen and played a few Wilkes and they had different embouchures, and I played several Aebi flutes with different embouchures
as well (Tom’s own flute has a very different emb hole from mine).they have almost identical tone hole dimensions and spacings.

YES! pesto is typical of the part of Italy (Liguria) were I live. LOVE IT belin !

mmh not really. but they do share some symilar aspects:both great flutes,
both makers make instruments that sound and look like a simple system flute should.

Two things:
Tom Aebi is a very nice guy. When he sent my Bb boxwood flute, he included a rattle he’d turned for my baby - very nice!
I bought a live basil crop two days ago at the supermarket, thinking I’d be ambitious and try to make pesto (we love it), and the thing was supposed to live in water for 4 weeks. Well, it’s in water and it’s already dying. Hmph. Maybe I’ll get ambitious this weekend.

the only problem with the food processor is that it warms the basil a bit,
changing slightly its taste.some people put food processors blades in the
fridge for a while before making pesto.others (me included when time permits) stick with the auld pester! But the biggest issue in pesto making
is finding the right basil (which is quite difficult outside of Liguria).

Yes, she loves it! In fact, a slightly different version of that is in my repertoire, so she’s been hearing it since she was a fetus. I learned it as “Waltz for Polly” from Dave Copley.

Now that’s interesting news! I thought that tune was almost unkown elsewhere. I think it’s composed by Belgian flute player Wim Poesen.
Please let me chime in here and recommend that CD!!!
It is one of my absolute favorites!
And yes, Waltz for Pelle is beautiful!
